Sorcerer or pyromancer gunslinger
Hey all,

I have the base game with no DLC and want to make a gunslinger. Between Sorcerer or Pyromancer which would be better?

I'd say pyromancer.

If your intent is to shoot guns at things then I think Sorcerer offers more for you.

Soleals Witchfire doesn't have much synergy with Fire Strike, you'd have to do damage conversion to make use of it and Possession, and everything else in Occultist is active or minions. It can be done and I think there are sets for it, but it might be wonky while leveling.

Arcanist boosts elemental damage right out of the gate which is a large part of Fire Strike and Flame Touched, then Maiven's Sphere of Protection is very useful for survivability and Reckless Power will also help without needing extra conversion.
Neither really supports gunslingers much, are you really dead set on those 2 choices? I get that you don't have access to Inquisitor, but you could also take Soldier and have Markovian's Advantage and Zolhan's Technique to work in tandem with your Fire Strike.

Darkblaze is level 94 set, they have no DLC. But yeah that's what I was gonna say at first too, if it's about those 2 then I would have said Occultist because of Darkblaze. Of course even with DLC, there's no guarantee they'll play long enough to even start getting it.

Thanks! I’m going to go with the sorcerer since I don’t have the DLC. Should I put all point in physique or put about 10 or so in cunning since I won’t be able to respec?

sorcer in 100% occasion is a mage character, always, and eXtremely good for this
you could access more success with a pyromancer

If you're gonna be gunslinger, you gotta have to have the cunning to actually use guns. It's not really that big of a deal even if your attribute points aren't 100% optimised.

Personally, I'd recommend putting 1 point into physique each level and save the rest, unless you need to put some in cunning or spirit to equip stuff, until you've got about 10 points in reserve, then put the rest into physique. Use the reserve to satisfy item requirements for cunning or spirit, and then save a point or two back each level until you rebuild it.

Continue until you reach max level and either have your endgame gear, or at least figure out what stats you'll need for it, then put anything left over into physique for extra survivability. If you end up with a few extra points in cunning or spirit, it shouldn't be a big deal.
