Into the Jaws of Madness [spoilers]

So I've gone through the cthonic rift, and have faught the Prince of Darkness, I go and talk to Ulgrim at Voids Edge, I try to beat some sense into him, and I just get my keester handed to me. I faught him for multiple minutes, and he doesn't even seem to take damage. He doesn't seem to be expending energy either.

This is only on veteran difficulty, and I've had little or no problem with things leading up to this. Any thoughts are appreciated.
