Use curse.
A couple good L35 pistols (assuming you go ranged) you can use are Oathbreaker. Granted, you'd have to find them also.
Anyway, Pyro builds are typically all over the place as far as what active skills they use (some like Cocktail, some prefer Thermite Mines, some use a little of both; my build currently uses 1 point in Cocktail and I'm unsure why and will likely remove it, as I rarely use the skill myself and have no real need for it), but some skills off the top of my head that you want maxed ASAP:
* Flametouched (bonus Fire damage)
* Fire Strike (your default weapon attack replacement)
* Solael's Witchfire (bonus Chaos damage and attack speed)
* Blood of Dreeg (self-heal outside of any Vampirism you acquire)
* Possession
Worth noting is that anything with attack speed is going to typically boost your damage more than anything else, but don't neglect your Fire/Chaos modifiers, or resistances. While you are a ranged class, there are mobs that can easily get to you in melee range (chargers, swifties) and they will hurt you if your defenses are low.
Here's[www.grimtools.com] a link to the build I've been using. It has no gear equipped in it, strictly Masteries, Attribute Points, and Devotions.
Note that it is for level 85, so the extra 21 points available can be put anywhere, and like I said about Cocktail, there are some points that are likely able to be placed around elsewhere.
As for what I'd change?
* Remove Cocktail entirely.
* Max Vindictive Flame (Total Speed bonus (Attack/Movement), Fire Damage)
* Max Second Rite (Chaos Damage bonus)
* Last 3 points in Thermite Mines I guess?
Granted, this leaves you without Flashbang or Stun Jacks, but I'm unsure how effecitve they are later on, and non-boss mobs drop so fast anyway that they're largely useless; at least to me, anyway.
As for the spare 5 Devotions: I opted to put 4 in to Fiend for extra Fire/Chaos damage, and the last one to finish Jackal which had a +15% all damage node.
pretty strong overall. probably can't compete with the new necro based summoner builds (don't know). got taht silly level 70 relic that spawns up to 6 killer roaches (or whatever they are called) temprarily. between all the buff auras, those little ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ pretty much ate anything in their way within fractions of seconds.
I prefer to use Cannister Bomb over Blackwater Cocktail or Grenado. And I realize alot of people are just the opposite, it's all personal perforance. I know Cannister has a longer cool down, but the initial blast kills a few in mob, then the projectiles explode taking out the rest of the mob and anything that runs into the path.
I've been a fan of Mortar Trap for awhile. It's very good at shifting fire to remaining mobs, even if you can't see them, If you're in melee fire a Boss throw one beside you and it will pound on them while you pound on them. I'm a recent convert to the Thermite Mines and I love them. Place them in a row and lesser mobs die before reaching you. Tougher mobs and Bosses will be almost dead when they finally do get in your face.
I played earlier today and in the fight against Cronley I was running from him so I would'nt die. I was very close to it and was waiting for the healing potion cool down. I mean one more hit and I was a goner. Next thing I know the notification comes on the scene that I'd defeated a Boss and loot popped up everywhere. I seems he had ran right into a Thermite Mine field right as a Mortat round dropped right on his head.
Solael's Witchfire, Flame Touched and Vindictive Ring of Fire are put on the second hot bar so they don't get accidently turned off(it's happened waaaay too many times.) Flashbang and Curse of Frailty and Blood Dreeg are good for emergencies, like when things get too close. I also tend to put the Devotion power Flame Torrent on Fire Strike. It has a 25% chance to proc I think, but when you shoot fast or swing a sword fast it tends to activate on a very regular basis.
Flashbang is great regardless of build, imo. Blastshield also works wonderfully for defense. Flame touched, vindicative flame, and ulzuin wrath are good for a couple of point invested.
Blood of Dreeg from burst heal and OA, aspect for extra poison resist in case you don't have enough from gear. Soleal witchfire for flat chaos and attack speed.
Devotion is about fire/chaos so naturally this build gravitated toward Fiend, Solael's witchblade, Fissure, with Dying god or Ulzuin's torch to gravitate toward more fire or more chaos . Behemoth for defense. The rest is pretty up to you.
Gearing is rather easy. Soalr edge from homestead available at level 35, Legion firestarter available at level 50. Devil chestguard is available at level 35 (good health and DA), Outcast burning pauldron from Outcast at level 50. ..... actually fire damage makes gearing quite easy without much dependency on certain items to make it works.
hope this help with your pyro. Good solid class to play as your first character. Not as boring as physical SB witchblade.
