thunderous strike worthwhile?
If I take thunderous strike it looks like it shuts off a whole lot of stuff and you have to go pay to get rid of it. does it turn off everything you get from the brutal force and savagry trees? is it worth going without those?

Why would it shut off anything? It's a modifier for Primal Strike, that's all; doesn't affect Brute Force or Savagery. And it's only 1 point so not expensive to refund anyway.

it says it doesn't activate abilities that use default attacks. so if you use thunderous strike instead of default strikes since it removes the CD, you won't get any of those default attack modifiers

doesn't make much sense to use both savagery and primal strike with thunderous strikes unlocked. both are spammable skills and you can't spam both at the same time.

savagery & primal strike (ie. the baseline PS as a hard hitting AoE nuke with cooldown) is a fairly popular combo, though.

skipping savagery altogether (and also skipping upheaval and feral hunger) and using spammable primal strike (ie. PS with thunderous strikes) is also a pretty viable setup.
the skill can easily carry you through the game on its own and filling out only one skill+modifiers saves an awful lot of skillpoints that can be used elsewhere.

Primal Strike + Thunderous Strike. Try it. You'll like it. There are plenty of +4 to Primal Strike weapons to find.
Refunding the Savagery tree doesn't cost that much. Keep Brute Force and drop feral hunger and and upheaval. Getting money is easy in this game.
If you want to change a Savagery build to a PS build, you might need to change some of your devotions. Sometimes it's just easier to build a new character.

Well, Primal Strike isn't a default weapon attack replacer anyway. Only Savagery is from the Shaman mastery.

Thunderous Strike is the best. The damage per strike goes down, but the loss of the CD more than makes up for this, My DPS literally doubled when I started using the TS modifier.

Brute force still works with this; Feral Hunger and Upheaval do not.

Thunderous Stike is what makes Primal Strike worth using in my opinion.
I put a point in it and never looked back.

Yeah, I love seeing the lightning all over the screen. I just wish other skills looked as flashy.
Depends what you want to do
it's possible to do a savagery build with untransmuted Primal Strike (primal strike without thunderous)
it's possible to do pure Thunderous Strike build (you can still use Brute Force, just not Feral Hunger or Upheaval)
it is also possible to do the good old Thunderous Strike spam with "weaving" savagery for the passives in Savagery, (usually this means not big investments into wps nor savagery itself)
