Play vanilla or modded?
Saw theres a decent amount of mods available that bring in elements from other games such as class masteries. Wonder if its worth figuring out how to install them to get a good experience.

Ya if you're not having a good experience with the game anymore, it probably is worth it to add some new content. I found mods to be very intimidating, but I managed to mod the ♥♥♥♥ out of fallout 4 and it was easier than I thought it would be. Granted, I found a literal step-by-step guide on how to do it, like showing every single thing along the way, which I needed.

I would say to go vanilla first. Sure you can get more classes with mods but there is already 9 classes with the DLC which offers quite many possible combinations by itself.

Its recommended you play vanilla first. But saying that I personally have never got a vanilla char to 100. Mods for this game are excellent. The modding community is great & tends to respond even if your not a modder. But be warned playing mods its very addictive. This game is alt heaven if you like to try different things. & theres more then just class mods. Like ROT reign of terror is Diablo 2.

Oh yeah, if you haven't played at all then I would stick with vanilla first. It's a great game. All of my 800 or so hours played are just the vanilla game with the 2 expansions. I have no desire to mod it still.

Personally I always recommend (with any game) playing unmodded until you know the game decent, what you like and don't like about it. That way you have a better concept about what mods and tools you would be interested in.

As far as installing mods - it isn't hard. Download the mod(s) you are interested in, it will be compressed into a zip, 7z, or rar file. Navigate to the game's installation folder, find the folder here named mods (if it doesnt exist then create it). Move your downloaded file into it then extract the files contents directly into the location. Start up GD and select Custom game.

Lets just say that after 1000 hours i still don't use mods.
I use some tools, though, which are mods, just not gameplay once.
Use grim internals and rainbow loot filter, thats all you need. Also, grimtools is very useful thing as well, so one more reason to play without custom content.

Mods after you know the mechanics. The sheer amount of combos ones like Grimarillion bring is mind blowing.

To add to installing mods. If it doesnt show up in the custom games then it was installed incorrectly. The most common problem is double folders. ex: /mods/dom/dom.

Also seems like the most popular mods require the two main expansion dlcs which I do not have. Maybe if I get hooked, ill look into them

Once I went Grimarillion I never went back. Vanilla is just so bleak in comparison.

I started modding the game at 1k+ hours, so as long as you're making new toons and spot farming what you need, gameplay should stretch out a bit.
