This is the set you probably gonna want, since it's for lightning casters.
Note that I never went over lvl 30 or so, as no class "clicked" with me, so sets are the least of my worries
As you see, lots of options, ofc some need modifiers but all are possible with lightning included.
Grenado and canister bomb + storm totem for support.
Those are all ranged casting skills, very good and flashy and powerful.

What item/s are needed to create a lightning Mortar Trap set up?
Good option to build off of is Shaman, as it has lots of lightning stuff. Inquisitor is another. And then you have Demolitionist.
If you want extreme glass cannon Shaman Inquisitor or Demo Inquisitor is probably the way to go.
That said I don't recommend Glass Cannoning this game. You will run into a wall on Ultimate. However that is fine even with the "glass cannon" class build you can still build yourself tanky with proper gear and enchants. Worry about that later.
But if you want a Lightning focused build either Shaman Inquisitor or Demo Inquisitor is my recommendation.
anyways, as far as lightning spectacular goes my top suggestions would be:
Lightning elementalist, arthritis version or not. Lightning Canister Bomb, Lightning Blackwater cocktail, lightning grenado, lightning stun jacks etc etc etc Lightning !
"sane version" example https://forums.crateentertainment.com/t/1-1-9-0-the-amateur-arsonist-barrelsmith-elementalist/102908
Primal Strike-Thunderous Strike Shaman+X, as an ex https://forums.crateentertainment.com/t/1-1-7-2-1-1-9-0-the-light-show-vortex-of-souls-primal-strike-druid-sr75-cr-4-35/102994
we have lightning warlock, throwing lightning like Zeus' damnation mage of Thor's loins https://forums.crateentertainment.com/t/1-1-9-0-tempest-lightning-doom-bolt-warlock-sr110-crucible-5-15-all-celestials/107623/8
lastly we have the good ol zap zapper Vindicator with stormbox wind devil's and storm totems
Many thanks for the detailed replies, I'll go with this one :)
Generally, you want to build up your offense first, then defense. You dont need to be super tanky in the early game, just make sure to keep up your resists around 40% to 50%. Focusing purely on a single damage type is great until you encounter hero mobs or bosses which are mostly resistant to it. A sprinkle of one or two secondary damage types is a good idea for most builds.
Primal Strike with all the higher mastery skills, and Thunderous Strike so you can spam it.
Wind Devil with all the higher mastery skills.
Stormcaller's Pact
That's most of your offense right there.
For Devotions you can easily, and relatively quickly, go with Tsunami > Owl > Tempest. After you complete Tsunami and Owl you should refund the Crossroads devotion points (the very first devotion points you get in the center of the the constellations), and apply them towards Tempest. If you're not familiar with "self-supporting" devotions you need to research it!
Add some Cunning attribute points and gear with a hefty amount of Offensive Ability bonuses, and you're basically Thor at that point.
Edit***Ah, I see we are thinking the same thing.
