Project Diablo 2 is supposed to not have changed the original game too much. Just fix certain bugs. I’ve never delved into the list of fixes. Infinite arrows and affix powers on the quivers was the main change for me, but I don’t usually play anything other than a zon.

Reign of Terror is free, so it won’t hurt to try it out.

Some of the controls are archaic for sure so that's something to keep in mind. But it'll have its community, project diablo 2 is fairly popular so people are still interested in D2. With D2 you'll have purists that dont' want to change anything, and then some (like me) that wouldn't mind a few changes.
One major thing I disliked about D2 was the ability to cast one skill/have one aura active at a time. Hell, Necromancer could only cast ONE debuff on mobs and that was it. Having to cycle through all the different skills to find the one you want, potions didn't stack, runes didn't stack.

RoT brings all the improvements over the years plus Grim Dawn's systems. Dual class, skill modifiers instead of just synergy, damage type conversions, devotions.

I played through Diablo 2 around 2012. Did the 3 difficulties as summoner Necro and it was just pretty boring. Didn't touch it again til like last year. RoT I found when only the first 2 acts were available. Restarted my char each time the next act came out.

To be fair, this is actually the first I heard of RoT so I looked it up and it does look pretty sick. Does it work with other mods? Like Item Assistant, and is there a rainbow filter for it?

Thanks everybody. I started to play Reign of Terror. It's very cool and free 😁👍

D2R is the remaster we deserve for D2. D3 is junk, Grim Dawn is amazing, but the quality of Reign of Terror is minimal compared to D2R.

And also incredibly unfinished. I don't want Grim Dawn items dropping in a mod where they are useless. Makes no sense.

That's more an opinion than a fact. Considering that you can play the GD masteries they are far from useless.

After some 5 or 6+ years of steady, dedicated, releases RoT is a lot of things, unfinished tho is not one of them.

Why wouldn't you just play Grim Dawn vanilla? It defeats the purpose of it being a D2 mod if you can just play GD characters. D2R will crush this. Hands down. If 30 bucks is too much for you to spend on a game, fine, play RoT. Also, if 30 bucks is too much for you to spend on a game, I'm not too excited for your career choices.

Are you the person that posted in the RoT thread a month or 2 ago telling Ram and them that his work was garbage?

It also sounds like you know nothing about the mod - you have D2 masteries AND the GD ones available. Probably shouldn't speak on something you know nothing of.

Nah I don't go on official GD forums. His work isn't garbage. It just isn't even remotely comparable to D2R. It was cool before D2R, now it is not.

Well it sounds lime you know little about RoT one way or the other. D2:R is cool and all but this isn't a competition and Ram didn't develop the mod to be in a competition with a multi-billion dollar corporation.

Sounds like you need to ease up on the Blizz fanboi'ing just a hair.

Also, I played through the majority of RoT, and the fact that my D2 classes kept getting flooded with GD items that were useless, ruined the experience for me. If I wanted to play GD classes, I'd play GD. But it's a D2 mod for GD, and it's nothing but an impure experience regarding that.

Clearly he didn't create it to be a competitor. I don't have a fanboy problem. You do. You are whiteknighting a mod that isn't comparable to the original. It's fine, man. Suck it up. I don't like it in comparison to the real thing.

Too bad. Last I heard, with the announcement of D2:R, Ram had decided NOT to remove GD masteries and gear. 1) its a massive job 2) it makes it more unique.

Pretty sure that was his reasoning. It's a mod. Pro bono. Don't like it, make your own or play something else.

That's good. You didn't grow up playing D2. I did. Anyone who actually got into D2 and D2 endgame wouldn't even be questioning RoT or D2R. It's a no-brainer if you were any good at D2 to begin with. You played in 2012, after numerous more modern and simpler ARPGs catered to your childish needs.

Actually, I simply have little respect for those who dump on modders that spend years putting out work for others for free. Simple as that.
