Great game...PS4 Complete Version?
I'm sure the guys at Crate have considered this but as primarily a console player (PS4) I would pay full price for a complete version ie base game with all post release content bundled. The only competition this game has on that platform is Diablo 3 and this is on par and in some cases better. Maybe Sony shot down the idea or it's too big of a job for a small team? who knows...great game devs! love it so far

The electric guitar driven sound track is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sick!

Crate approached Sony and Sony told them no. Grim Dawn is only coming to XBox One.

I wonder if Titan Quest sells well, will they reconsider if so? I'm hoping so as I would love to play it on PS4 for the trophies.

Sony made a bad call on that one. Ya wtf, Titanquest but not this?

There has to be more to this story. Sony doesn't just randomly deny licenses without reason if you can afford the license and devkit. They've provided licenses and devkits to less established organizations.

Crate would require extra resources to port it over to the PS4 since the PS4 uses OpenGL rather than DirectX (which means writing a whole new renderer) and there's also the lack of windows binaries and libraries GD relies on to run (more programming work). So Crate would have approached Sony with a request for funding to help do this, probably with Sony getting an increased share of the price of the game + costs, but for what ever stupid reason Sony didn't want to do this.

Though with the TQ port and given GD will likely sell well on the Xbox1 (given the otherwise lack of diablo likes on it) this may prompt Sony to reconsider, or THQ-Nordic may end up helping Crate. Since They've already worked together for the TQ updates and Crate lisenced their netcode to THQ Nordic to replace the no-longer online GameSpy service TQ used to use. So we may yet see GD on the PS4. Just probably not this year given the work and money involved to do it.

That and getting on the PS4 these days seems to be a case of bribing the right people at Sony r.e. the Abominations Unto Sterling that have popped up...

The first half of your first paragraph has a lot of misinformation.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-how-the-crew-was-ported-to-playstation-4

Namely, the PS4 doesn't use OpenGL or even use a single API, and the difference between D3D11 and GNM/GNMX is overstated.

The rest is all speculation.

I think you guys are conflating Crate not finding the porting process for PS4 financially viable with Sony denying them a license, which I don't think is true at all. Sony has no reason to deny Crate a license given Grim Dawn's success. It just wouldn't make any business sense. So there's definitely more going on here and I don't think it's fair to lay the blame entirely on Sony.

Also, if you really think Sony is that stoic of a gatekeeper, you've not really paid attention recently. They've gotten a lot of flak for the quality of some of the games released on PSN.

From what I remember, one of the devs from Crate stated that Sony was being flaky.

IIRC it wasn't so much Sony saying "no" so much as Sony saying nothing at all - which fits "flaky" pretty well (and better than "no") if you ask me.

The simple truth is that it's not Sony's obligation to provide funding to third party developers.

I think what really happened here is that Crate went looking for Sony to bankroll the port and didn't find what they were looking for, not that they were denied a license. Which puts the onus entirely on Crate.

I don't know where the idea came from that Sony (or Microsoft and Nintendo for that matter) just randomly deny development licenses. If you have a working game and the money, the chances of you not getting a license are slim. Sony doesn't even deny licenses to Microsoft affiliated studios. And then there's the couple of Rare games that were published for DS.

Nor is it Crate's obligation/duty/onus to port GD to anything. I postulate that Crate's obligation to its employees and shareholders to stay in the black may somehow be related to this outcome... and that's about as far as I'll go with it unless better info turns up.

The only ports I get interested in come from the other direction - my newest console is old enough to drive.
IndigoAK 2018 年 3 月 20 日 上午 12:55
I never said Crate was obligated to port the game, I simply said that it's ridiculous that people are laying the blame at Sony's feet when they are blameless in this.

Looking forward to an eventual XBX1X version

Why did you choose Microsoft’s console for Grim Dawn? Are there any chances to see it on other platforms such as PlayStation 4 or Nintendo Switch?

A big part of it is that it’s easier to port from PC to the Xbox. It helped that Microsoft was very interested in the port and helped us get set up initially. Sony contacted us initially, but communication broke down so we prioritized the Xbox.
Whether we do other console ports in the future remains to be seen, but for now, our focus is on the Xbox.

Uh, what? Never heard that Crate and Nordic worked on any updates for TQ and why would they licence their netcode when the AE version of the game is digital and multiplay is via Steam or GOG?

As far as I know Pieces Interactive did the work on the Ragnarok expansion, just before Nordic bought the company so they may have done any update work needed for TQAE.
