Can't get LAN game to work
I own two copies of this game, one on Steam and one on GOG. I'm trying to set up a game to play with my kid, but can't get it to work. It shows up on the server list, but when I click start there is a long loading screen and then it says unable to connect.

Both are running the same game version. It was my understanding they could play together if running the same version. Neither copy has any of the DLC.

Any ideas?

Here is a link to a troubleshooting guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=700083557

The FAQ has some tips in there as well. There are also a lot of people here who are familiar with what the network needs who hopefully will chime in, besides the usual things like local firewall settings and whatnot.

I hope you can get it to work, playing with your son would be a lot of fun! I have played plenty of games with my daughter and son too.

I found this below where someone had the same issue on redit and the poster said it worked, I don't know for sure though. Worth trying :)

I followed this from Zantai, which i found on your first link, and it worked!

Try going to C:\Users\USER\Documents\my games\Grim Dawn\Settings

Open options.txt

Look for networkMTU

If it's not set to 1400, set it to that and try again.

It's true you can play with friends but this game was actually meant to play solo
That's not really what he is going for - whether the primary theme of the game is solo-play is completely besides the point as people can, and do, play multiplayer in GD. He wants to play multiplayer over LAN with his kid and the game supports that so telling him what you're telling him serves no purpose whatsoever except to confuse the issue.

Unfortunately none of that worked. It's strange, we've never had issues with any other games.

We can see the game in the server list, so clearly they're seeing each other on the network, just can't actually join the game.

Actually, just tried setting the number of players to 4 instead of 2 and it worked...

Definitely very buggy!
