they spawn in a fixed order regardless of kill
Clone of John Bourbon spawn Frozen Clone of John Bourbon + Burning Clone of John Bourbon
frozen spawn a Tainted clone, burning spawn an Electrified clone
when either tainted or electrified is dead each spawn a Deathly Clone of John Bourbon + Corrupted Clone of John Bourbon
after the corrupted you get the final form

There's no order necessary. You have to kill them all in any case.

no they aren't infinite, fixed number and spawn order
and reason he could be killing them in a selected order could be to not have to deal with 2x of X clone, like having 2x deathly+corrupted clone spawn at sorta the same time so you have 4 tough clones to deal with at once could possible be not such an ideal situation

also, can't remember if it's deathly or corrupted or both, but they have a nasty ability where they get a shield/bubble and it does retaliation dmg to you+heals them, or something
at least i accidentally killed myself on it when they did that because i didn't pay attention quick enough, either way, bubble on them means "don't hit them"(at least not in melee can't say for ranged)

I think you may have watched a video of different fight involving clones of John Bourbon, in that one they do spawn infinitely until you kill the main target.

you don't fight him anywhere else, the other one is a boss that spawns "different" bourbon clones as minions, unrelated to final form of john bourbon quest/reward
and like said, reason he is kill them in that order is so he doesn't have to face 2x2spawns constantly
the order stated above in my first post is exactly the one he follows, he just picks 1 and sticks with it until he gets the corrupted clone -> after which he gets the final form
1 spawns 2, then 1, then 2 again, so if you're already at tainted or even deathly+corrupted it would be silly to just nuke ex burning clone if that's the one you left out, in order to just spawn another clone/Electrified then +deathly and corrupted so you are facing 4+ clones at once

many clones and every time harder

using pets, just attacked the closest one without paying attention to enemies haha

auch, yea, definitely gotta make sure you take good use of that pet attack command button
"ideally" should never have to face/spawn more than 3 clones at same times, which then makes it bit easier to survive/soak up stray dmg than having to deal with "bonus" clone
pick 1 and stick with it
