Let me give you some context from the days of yore, way back on their Kickstarter:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/crateentertainment/grim-dawn
TLDR: they won't be changing this, nor do they ever intend to. Or at least I can tell you that since that Kickstarter, in 2012, they have given absolutely no indication to-date that they have any intention of doing so.
You could look to use the map with reduced markers selected once you have explored all of a region.
It has an option to show area names and importantly level scaling, and is fun once you disable some of the markers.
https://www.grimtools.com/map/
Not sure what you're talking about here since riftgates will show up on the mini-map when you're near them and also appear on the world map (both unlocked and locked).
Another reason not to mark the map (since you don't seem to like the "irrelevant" quote) is that some places have several spawn locations so are not the same on every play through.
It's not a limitation of the game engine, it's a deliberate design decision by the devs as pointed out in said "irrelevant" quote. It's not going to be changed, end of story.
Yep but as you said yourself "...when you're near them...". Maps aren't using random gen. It's always the same map, with caves/ruins/etc in the same place. Why no icons then? You have visited those places, seen them, interacted with them and yet you dunno where they are after relog.
Same weird idea to hide map again in new difficulties. Same maps, same layouts etc, yet whole map is hidden. And i really doubt its to "enjoy" exploration. This doesn't bring anything except of wasting time for searching stuff you've already discovered unless your memory is super good and you've beat game dozens of times.
I'm not angry or anything and I enjoy the game, I just don't get this one single idea with hiding things. It doesn't improve exploration experience, it's just a waste of time. If the icon pop-up would be in greater range or you could uncover map with greater range I wouldn't mind it that much. So... yeah... i don't get this weird idea, petty much this, no anger or rant, simply trying to understand why is it implemented in this weird, totally pointless(in my optinon) way.
Ofc there is GrimTools as 3rd party thing, but the map like that should be in game if your character uncovered all those areas.
FYI - If you are using local saving and have easy access to your save files you can actually copy one difficulties map files and paste/overwrite them over the next difficulties map files, thus uncovering the map "fog" as it was in the prior difficulty.
Navigate to:
C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn/save/main/_CHARACTERNAME/levels_world001.map/Normal/map.fow
Copy the map.fow file then switch to the Elite or Ultimate folder and paste it in.
