Choice of blacksmith?
Does it matter which guy I choose, the young guy or the master?

Young guy is good if you're focused on magic and/or elements, older guy is good if you're looking for physical attributes. Both are pretty much outclassed by the Homestead guy afaik, so it's not a huge deal.

I personally prefer choosing angrim(the older guy). The %armor bonus which he can give to crafted gear is really good for end game.

Angrim's %armor bonus is pretty much the best bonus in the game, barring situational cases for certain builds.

I have a question too...
Is it possible to choose Duncan without killing Angrim?

Yes. Arngrim will give the hammer up peacefully if you make the right choices.

Great - thanks
I didn't want to kill the old guy. But it suited me to choose him anyway because I'm playing a martial character; also I think his perspective on the use of the hammer is sounder than Duncan's.

I have a hard time believing it really even matters very much, since I've gotten so few items both unlocked AND found the materials for that actually look worth having them crafted.

given time you will fill your crafting stash plenty to make what you need/have a nice chunk of recipes you actually want to use
but the choice in blacksmith remain minor significant as the bonuses they provide are small
-and you can get both black smiths anyway, not that hard to get your free choice of pickins
on 1 playthrough you go with Angrim, then on the Elite you pick Duncan, or vice versa, voila, can get whatever bonus you desire...

I find Angrim useful. He is not going to do everything for you; no one in the game will.
Angrim is just one of many useful sources of items. He becomes more useful as you collect more rare components and discover more blueprints.

this, applies, to ALL, blacksmiths :steamfacepalm:
the sole difference between angrim and duncan, and the other blacksmiths are their blacksmith bonuses applied to items crafted, nothing differs but a tiny extra random stat they each add
they will all craft your collected blueprints along with the base recipes, -and a select few can then do the "celestial/legendary gambling"crafts
pick Angrim/Duncan depending on which minor bonus stats you think you might want "first", but it serves little meaning, as on next difficulty/Elite you can just pick another blacksmith, and thus have access to both stat bonuses on the same char/save..

these are the various blacksmith bonuses, https://grimdawn.gamepedia.com/Blacksmith
choice matters little, blacksmiths all do the same, and you can get access to all blacksmiths and pick and choose whatever craft/minor bonus you feel you desire
