Is Attack Speed that important?
Hey all, I'm in my first playthrough of the game. Currently lv 44.

I'm playing a DW Inquisitor-Demolitionist. A lot of fire damage.

Thing is I was running with two magic pistols, both rolled 13% Attack Speed. Recently unlocked the Homestead QM's pistols which have a ton of fire and burn % bonus plus flat fire.

The tooltip marks 2.25 vs 1.77 attacks in a second with a difference of around 500 damage per hit. But the paper DPS seems to prefer the Attack Speed.

ARPG choices... lol

More attack speed, more dps, simple math.

Attack speed is essentially a multiplier on your damage, so yes, it is very important. Even more important with skills like Fire Strike and WPS skills.

Demo + Inq => Purifier

Anything that increases attack speed is good; this is especially important for pistols, which have less raw damage than other weapons; which is why the Inquisitor has the skill Ranged Expertise. You might want to look for some Quickdraw Gloves, which add 9-10% to pistol attack speed. (The Empowered version of the Gloves, for level 65+, adds 18%). Certain pistols, Havoc for example, also increase attack speed. My Purifier has both Gloves and Havoc, and is pumping out 3 attacks per second when dual wielding.

it depends on a few things, but in general more attack speed = more damage. the difference is more noticeable when you speed up a slower harder hitting weapon compared to a faster softer one. if you have higher crit % then attack speed is really nice as you can crit more often. attack speed will help a lot of constellation skills, many of which trigger every so many attacks.

Like others have said, more attack speed is always a good thing.

Attackspeed becomes more important as you get more and more +% damage.

If you have a weapon that deals, let us say 400 base damage and an attack speed of 100%(1.0), and have +400% damage modifiers(so 2000 damage per attack), getting another +50% damage boost is not that big of a deal(an extra 200 damage, for a total of 2200 DPS).

On the other hand, if you instead add +20% attack speed to the mix, those 2000 damage becomes 2400 DPS. So even if 20% is less that 50%, you get twice the boost in damage.

And if we are late game, having +1000% bonus to damage is quite common(so your 400 base damage becomes 4400 per attack/DPS with 1.0 attack speed). Adding another +50% damage modifer will still only increase your DPS with another 200.
But adding +20% attack speed will increase it by 850 now(to a total of 5250 DPS).

In the end, it is best to simply try it out yourself. Paper calculations can only do so much for you.

Though seriously dont obsess to much over sheet dps its famously misleading in grim dawn and more a guide than anything. It doesnt take into account so many factors that late game it really doesnt give the most accurate numbers

the sheet dps is misleading and it over emphasizes IAS. It takes that into account over all other things, so yes the weapon you found may - itself - do more damage then the weapon you have eqipped. However that does not take into account ANY of the ways that weapon interacts with all of your skills. IAS isn't always better.
