Trozan's Sky Shard - Am i missing something?
I've been trying to make a Sky shard arcanist and the skill seems to be absolutely horrible.

After maxing it out, and shredding 87% from elemental resistances AND getting over 2k% lightning and cold damage, the skill effect feels weak AF....plop, plop, plop, like dropping 3 horseapples on something.
... and it has a 3 seconds cd on top of it? The heck?

Callidor's Tempest, a skill with no cooldown actualy does WAY more damage, thanks to it dealing 40-50% weapon damage.
Stun Jacks has the same 3s cooldown and can shotgun for 9x the damage killing everything but bosses.
Maxed out Wind devil delivers obscene, electrocute dot on top of other goodies.
Grenado is obscenely fun to play with, thanks to mega damage.
A freaking Blackwater Coctail was much more fun to play with, since you can at least create a puddle of death with it, if you have enough cast speed.

The only thing Sky Shard has going for it, is range, but that's hardly worth spending 40points on.
So what am i missing, when using it?

there are a lot of items in the game that change the way abilitys work like flat seconds cooldown reduction ..maybe there are some for shy shard idk.... i only know that some can make skills spammable within their duration

... i found an arcanist set once that had 100% on hit to proc sky shard .. or at least i think thats what it was called not sure if thats usefull to you or wich lvl you are or gear you are using

pretty casual so idk how much that information can help you
ive never played an arcanist so idk sry

hope you find some more experienced people to help you in the meantime have a nice day

Well usually you only focus on cold or lighting damage, not both. So in that case you only need 28 points not 40. But be as it may i dislike the skill myself as well. Though i haven't really taken tss build into end game with min maxed gear so i'm not saying it's necessarily bad.

seems pretty decent actually. played a TSS / wind devils / storm totems druid to level 100. it's a decent skill imo. maybe a bit weak relative to the amount of points invested, but 40 out of 300 or whatever skillspoints isn't that terrible, really.

worked fine with random green stuff and more recently i used the FG set transmutation stuff to actually deck her out in the full arcanist legendary set (the one that turns sky shards into a full elemental skill by adding fire to the already existing cold & lightning). trash usually melts from the wind devils and storm totems and devotion powers anyway. and the tougher opponents die quickly to a few shards.

i think the actual cooldown of the skill is something like 1.5 seconds or so now and the set has a chance to instantly reset the cooldown and basically double nuke back to back. can't complain, really. there are worse skills in the game

Trozan sky shard benefits heavily from end game gear along with MI's. The dedicated set for sky shard increases amount of projectiles and reduces cooldown. There's items that increase damage, and a MI offhand that decreased cooldown as well. I've gotten the cooldown so low that it's nearly spammable.

I use it just for the stun and another devotion proc

You have a link to that build? I've always wanted a build that rains destruction from the sky but the closest I could find was a Mortar Trap build (which needs more tweaking cause of Crate's 'rebalancing').

There's all sorts of skyshard or devastation builds on the forum.
Here's a couple. For the most part TSS builds are all the same. Get trozans set, rolderathis offhand, and spam away.

the iskandra set is also pretty decent for a sky shards build. can't use the MI offhand since the set contains an offhand, but you can use the weapon from the trozan set to get the additional +1 projectile.

main difference between the sets is that trozan comes with good support for secondary skills (wind devils and also sigil of consumption) and boosts cold and lightning.

iskandra is full elemental (also changes sky shards animation) and has about 50% aether to elemental conversion on its items, so combined with arcanist star pact skill (40% aether > cold) you get almost complete aether > elemental conversion, so you can also use devastaion as almost fully converted elemental spell for more "death from above" goodness. could also go for both amatok and ulzuins torch devotions to add even more rain powers
