I haven't started the DLC areas yet, but there has been a guy ready to take me to Forgotten Gods since the beginning of act 2. Ashes has 2 new classes and Forgotten Gods has 1 new class that you can use on new characters. I have also found gear with skill bonuses for the new classes, including sets pieces, so there is new loot, even at early levels.
I mean ive found items with bonus to skills to my available classes aswell (Like +1 familiar ring for example that I have since im level 10 or so)
If I would start finding necromancer gear without having the ability to play necromancer, yeah, that would be a little bit ♥♥♥♥.
Ive also heard people talking about "leveling up in the crucible"? So thats at least one area you can enter whenever you want ?
Also, im not entirely sure how Grim Dawn works in general.. Do areas level with you? Is there a minimum level for elite and ultimate?
Can you elaborate? This sounds like I shouldnt even buy Ashes of Malmourth if its basically just an inbetween between story finish and "end-game" ?
To compare this to Path of exile, I wouldnt buy a DLC that gives me access to tier 1-5 maps when theres another DLC, thats also cheaper, that gives me access to tier 6-15 maps and cant even drop tier 1-5
I didn't pick up Crucible because as I understand it, it's just an arena where you farm experience quickly on a new character, or farm for loot. It doesn't have new classes. Being new to the game, I figured the core campaign and story would keep me interested for a while, and I would pick up Crucible during a sale later on if I decided I wanted it.
Areas do level with you, but most zones, especially along the main story, have min and max limits. The game seems to try to keep enemies a few levels higher than you when possible. This is helpful for experience and loot.
I haven't played higher difficulties yet, but I know that they added a way for high levels to buy items that let new characters skip difficulties, so they can start in elite or ultimate. Quests for skill or stat points are automatically rewarded without having to go back in difficulty. Devotions are not automatically rewarded, but there are enough shrines to max them out in just ultimate. I've seen people recommend leveling a new character at least a little bit in Crucible before starting ultimate, when skipping.
I got Forgotten Gods on release and played a bit. I started a Soldier/Oathkeeper(new class that is sort of like a Paladin?) where I intend for it to be a sword and shield kind of character due to the shield throw. Around mid-old arkovia I actually respec to the whirlwind kinda skill and got a two handed weapon and I am loving it. I basically just spin to win and actually consider a proper run but do an oathkeeper/shaman to get some proper 2 hand support and shaman buffs.
Well yeah, good point. The 2 classes would be a strong reason to pick up this DLC.
Ashes is required for Forgotten Gods. I could be wrong, but I think he just meant that the order they were released in has implications in story and lore, so they should be played in order, even though the core game lets you start Forgotten Gods as early as end of act 1 or beginning of act 2.
So, the Aom is really good continuation for the base game and I like it a lot, but the Fg should have been made more diffucult and it should have been made as on continuation for Aom. Now you can just jump to play Fg after you kill the act 1 boss krieg in the base game and that is stupid in my opinion.
There's the Base Game: Grim Dawn
There's Ashes of Malmouth: the first expansion which continues the story of the Base Game right where it left off, and adds in 2 new Masteries as well as new gear, bosses, devotions, etc.
Finally there's Fogotten Gods: the new expansion which has a self-contained side-story the can be jumped into right when you finish Act 1 of the Base Game. However, the Forgotten Gods content makes more sense story-wise if you play through the Base Game and Ashes of Malmouth before playing it.
Both DLCs are well worth the price. they add tons of new content, and are of the same high quality as the base game.
Thank you.
