Before installing, if you have AVAST anti-virus...
Make an exception for the folder you have the game in, alse AVAST might(Happened to me, atleast) detect IDP.ALEXA.52 and move your grimdawn.exe to it's virus-chest. I tried to restore it and make an exception in AVAST, but sadly, AVAst said: "Ooops, we cant restore that file..." Now I'll prolly have to reinstall the whole game... Just givin ya'll a heas up. :steamfacepalm:

Most likely a false positive. I know Norton often detects Unreal Engine games (not that this game is) as performing actions that are suspicious and then quarantines the exe. There may be a report link on the AVAST website to report it to be checked (or that's how Symantec do it).

If you think about the actions that your average game wants to do, it's not surprising they get detected as malware sometimes - accessing hardware like controllers, low level access to hardware resources, querying your machines hardware capabilities, etc.

Actually, pretty sure you don't need to reinstall, you probably just need to re-verify the game files and Steam will download the .exe.

If you try to restore durring the same session it wont work. After reseting PC.. Avast should let you restore and add exception.

Avast doesnt like Item assistant either and the same thing happens. The reset should allow for the restore and add exception.

I have avast and didn't happen. I have silent mode enabled though, don't know if that does something.

Most AV software I've tried in my life was giving me more troubles and headache than "defense". If you don't browse through suspicious sites or run 3rd party executables on the daily, you don't really need it. I'm talking about a system that is only being in personal use, if you have a bunch of other people using your PC, for example kids, that's completely another story. I haven't been using any antivirus for 8 years now and I'm doing great. That's just, like, my experience. I'm not trying to convince anyone to do anything.

Yes you do need AV. Few years ago was browsing a normal website and had my PC infected with a ransomware virus. Thank f*ck I could still log into another profile and update/run my AV to get rid of it.

Sorry for the slow reply.

Sounds like you take some of the obvious safety steps yourself anyway, but modern versions of Windows have AV built in (Defender), so chances are you are running something - even macOS has Gatekeeper and associated services to block known malware. The trouble is, even someone educated about the risks can slip up and let something through - for that reason I'd normally recommend using an reputable AV product.

If you are curious as to whether you have any inbuilt AV and if it's functional, it's worth testing with the eicar test file (it's literally a file that prints on the screen that it's a test, but has been agreed by AV vendors to be treated as a virus as far as detection). It can be found at http://www.eicar.org/
