Grim Dawn
Overwhelmed with the constellation traits. Asking for build guidance.
I have a lot of points available for the constellations. Little worried though, cause i see no way to reset them if I pick badly.

Basically I've ran though the game pretty easily as a Shaman Primal Strike build, with totems. I also picked up the briarhorn pet. My main damage is Lightning.

So I'm level 51 now, and finally picked Occultist as my secondary, and started the Raven pet build path. I may go for inquisitor though. Thinking I may reset my points and get rid of Briarhorn, and place them elsewhere.

My build revolves around 2-hand primal strike, and basically AOE destroy everything in like 2 or 3 hits with exception of bosses.

Is there a way to get on a specific constellation build path? Or a constellation I should be aiming for?

You can buy back Devotion points at the Spirit Guides in the game. And if you have Ashes of Malmouth you can also get a potion to reset them for free as part of some quest rewards.

You won't be able to change from Occultist to Inquisitor now though. Your class is set with Shaman/Occultist - not possible to change this ingame. To use Inquisitor you would need to start a new character and pair that mastery with one of the others. Also bear in mind that trying to melee and have pets doesn't usually work well. You need to be one or the other: melee orientated or dedicated petmancer.

Depending on what you have of the game for lightning Tempest and Spear of the Heavens base game, Ultos if you have Ashes as well.

Thanks for the guidance. I'll look into resetting my points and putting in occultist.

I have all the DLC's right now. Just picked up Forgotten Gods over the fall sale.
You can use www.grimtools.com to design and link your skills, but otherwise here's some general advice.

re: constellations, the easy thing to try is maybe look for all the bright stars, These will have some kind of power. Depending on how you've built your skill trees, some of these might align or give you extra things If you are following a build guide (see official forums and there might be some here), there might be instructions, but you can build whatever you want how you feel things fit. Personally, I found it helpful to just note all the colored bright stars first, find the constellation power I want to do (i.e. the Bat constellation and the Twin Fangs power, for my melee Saboteur (Demolitionist/Nightblade), which doesn't give direct alignment, but has lifesteal) and start building it, If you need to acquire more affinities for star colors, you can look to the other side constellations. Feel free to ask more questions if you don't understand a power.

You can also go for Curse of Frailty + Vines - Bleed/Vit as focus damage types. Vines have good CC, and protect you from getting swamped by onrushing baddies, and a huuuuuge AoE. Curse of Frailty debuffs the baddies stuck in your vines to make them more digestable :D

And the 2Hdd Buffs the Shaman has also work just fine with rifles or crossbows. So, carrying one of these, it's pretty easy sniping them off once you glued them baddies down.

Works pretty nicely in the base game and DLCs, might be a bit weak in the higher endgame stuff.

But as Medea Fleecestalker wrote: Pets are an all-in-or-stay-out thing in this game.
itssimple, lets say you are going for fire damage, bring up devotion tree and search for "fire" and all the constellations with fire will light up! :3
You'll probably go through at least 3 devotion schemes as you get more points.

You'll have your starting devotions (including the 1-point stars in the middle of the map)

Then you'll pick more powerful devotions as you get more points and actually refund those 1-point stars and some minor constellations to get more points for the better devotions.

Then you'll likely respec one last time to pick up at least 2 of the outer most end-game devotions that don't reward anything but have some high-teir skills.
