A question about loot and what to keep/sell/stash....?
First, this game is incredible! Easily my fav ARPG. My question for this discussion is.... how do I discern what loot to keep, what to sell, and what to stash for other characters? I have come across items (armor for example) where the armor defense factor is lower than what I have equipped but has some better stats to it. Can anyone give me a good guideline to follow in this situation? Also, if its useless loot - I sell it when I go back to town. And I have been populating the shared stash with items that MIGHT be beneficial to keep, but now my shared stash is full. Help!

Whatever you do, keep your components in the shared stash. There's no point in selling them and they're incredibly useful. I'd say that you should really keep mostly legendary and rare (green) items that inspire you to make a certain build. Over time, you'll learn which affixes and suffixes on greens are worthwhile and which aren't (for your builds, that is). If you want to use the Item Assistant, you can store just about anything but I'm aware many people don't want to use any 3rd party software.

Item Assistant is a horders friend. Mod . Get it.

I put all components/potions/ cratfting stuff in tab in shared.

Loot filter to green or blue. Yellow not even worth selling. Avoid many trips to town offloading loot. You get plenty of bits not ever looting yellow.. eventually you stop picking up greens and blues too.

What do you mean when you say, "Loot filter"?

There is a button on the left side of the UI that can hide loot of a certain quality and below. By setting it to green, you will hide yellow and white items. Yellows and whites are worth so little money that it's usually not worth your time to pick them up and sell them.
oh ok, I didnt know that. Thanks!

I like collecting uniques and sets so both blue and purple are getting in my stash. I usually keep 2 of each unique item I find if possible.

But you might not want to collect so much so I would say keep set pieces, powerful greens (you will know with experience which ones are or aren't) and purples definitely.

Yellows are not worth picking-up and/or selling and even with the loot filter set to green minimum you might get sick of filling your inventory with vendor trash and doing constant trips. Still some greens are VERY good but those are rare.

The exception to the above rule is when you start a new character ofc. Can't be too picky when you're below lvl 10 for example, but come elite and you will be flooded with yellows so might as well ignore them.
After halfway through Act 1 in Normal/Vet I only collect rings, amulets and badges of any color and greens or above for selling purposes. By the Halfway point of elite I do the jewelry plus Blue and above.
