No in old-school graphics just like Diablo 1 or 2 but with an added ragdoll physics engine and a more in depth animation for attacks suitable for the ragdoll death mechanics, with ARPG gameplay ofc, diablo 1 and 2 is in 2d/3d more than torchlight is.
isn't torchlight in full 3d?
Or maybe make, create an illusion of it with sophisticated filters that makes reasonably low poly 3d with use of assets and substance painter, seem like well made high resulotion 2d but with all the perks of being 3d rendered objects.
Thinking of it being like a new trend of graphics like it being cellshaded but rather in a way more like retropixelated 3d-fied isometric view arpg ( to keep the old-school dungeon feel), but not to few pixels either so it can still look good in 4K along with a great work with a physics engine for all character and enemy types.
It only has to be there as a visual style and not as a limitation on how modern the game will be as an isometric ARPG.
I think there is still innovation to be made with physics engines, filters and the visual style of Diablo 2 as inspiration for the general look for a modern ARPG with more in detail animations, especially with modern tools of making games.
