Unable to play online with friend
Just bought the definitive edition with a friend and we can't even play the multiplayer.... nice (*thinking about a refund*)

This is one of those times. It will be back up at the earliest possibility, definitely within hours.

Sorry for the inconvenience. As a workaround, you can look into adjusting your network's settings by following this thread:

What's the issue? Does it say that you have the wrong version installed?
GD is peer to peer, so just for good order make sure things on your network side are working like it should, check out

also, both players must have same version of game, this both means same patch (current 1.1.5.2) and same expansions installed, -and mods if using those

If you're not seeing any public multiplayer games, click the refresh button to populate the list. If you can't join a friend's game, make sure the friend is actually in "host multiplayer" mode and in the game world. Most likely problem after that is network issues such as a restrictive firewall or a game version mismatch.

Try giving the server you set up a new name. I think that just helped for me.

we see all the servers, you simply can't connect. I've just seen there are other ppl who have the same issue, they're saying it's already happened before and they fixed it after like a day

Doesnt work for me and my GF. We can neither join via friends list or via game search (mostly because our games wont show up). We are looking for any kind of help ive been browsing reddit and forums for ours :(

EDIT: We both sit right next to each other using the same router.

yeah, ive read something similar. seems to happen regularly but that still ruins our saturday plans :/ we were playing just fine yesterday until late night and now it just wont work but only a handful of people seem to have this problem
i've no clue why it doesn't show the game version/what is interering with that, so i don't even have an idea/suggestion for that
but i've just tried joining MP games as these posts pop up, and i've no problem joining people.
Really, really go through that network issues posts on the GD forum, make sure to check your ingame settings UpnP etc, your firewall, and possibly your router function thingy too.
if you can't join, it really sounds like you are blocking "something" somewhere in the connection chain.
I'm not very well versed in GD multiplayer connectivity besides knowing it's peer to peer, and that "i can join just fine" -which ofc doesn't really help anyone that has trouble connecting. But it does lead me to think possibly something is interfering on your end/system, AV maybe even?
feck, i just remembered once reading something in a post about chaning something in the GD config.txt or something.. something with ....., can't remember.. give me a minute to try look it up on the off chance it might help out.. but check the network issues thread for sure. If steam ports are being blocked you'll likely have connection issues easily at least.

i already tried lots of different methods to fix this problem (even tho nothing should have been changed anyway since we were playing the game just fine a few hours ago) and i tried all the default fix stuff, also flushed dns and so on. Not sure what else to do but wait :/

Worth mentioning that i can join other online games but we cant connect to our friend game

If you are behind 2 or more routers, this can cause issues as well. If anyone is using wireless, this can also cause issues. Host should never be on wireless.
later he mentions increasing the MTU in config, but that might just be lag related /that's what i was recalling in my previous post)

I just tried that and it sadly doesnt help either

Will answer this thread again if i find a working solution or if it randomly starts working again.

Thanks for the help tho, really appreciated :)
