Is it open world? How big is the map?
Hello people,

So, this game has picked my interest, but i would like to know : is it an open world game? Like Sacred 1 was? Or is it linear?

To what extent can you explore the world? How big is this one?

Thank you!

Here's the map

(Clicking on one of the shrines or riftgates will bring you down to the more detailed local map view)

No it isn't open world, the majority of diablo-likes generally are not open world. It is 'mostly' linear tho there are a few spots where you can skip past content.

It's big enough that a first time player who insists on uncovering everything that he/she can will generally get 30-40 hours on the first playthru. There are plenty of 'off-path' secret spots with treasure littered throughout the game. It is unlikely that you will uncover them all your first time unless you are extremely diligent. I've played for thousands of hours and every once in a long while I find one that I didn't know of.. tho I think at this point I probably have found them all.

It is an open world game, you do pretty much waht you want. Quests aren't forced and multiplayer is ultiamte cheese, which is very fun to play. Lots of bugs tho in mp, sp I think is fine.

Never played sacred so, I don't know about that one but, it should be pretty decent from these type of games, as expected to be. Forgotten Gods will add a bit more.

it's open world in that there is nothing really stopping you from going where you want, and since most monsters auto level to you (well to a degree each zone has a min and max level of mobs an d they MOSTLY stick to your level unless your underleveled for the area) however the quest line is linear and the whole game is simply beat main quest line (there are a couple, side quests but not many) on one dificulty then jump to the next, rinse and repeate.

in short it's an open world where theres nothing to do but grind unless you follow the linear story line path.

that said despite the fact that it is linear there are other things to do, like dungeons and secret area's/quests BUT this isn't skyrim where you can just wonder off the beaten path and jump into a random dungeon and explore.

Skyrim, everyone plays it because it's now really popular game. Myself I didn't find it that muhc interesting, it's outdated. The people who keep praising it must have come from nostalgia section.

Not to meantinue it has been "re-mastered" 9000 times.

I wonder what you would say about those who praise Morrowind to these days. Skyrim with *right* mods and tweaks is very, very good imho. Vanilla is pretty much garbage, I agree.

I would actually say that Sacred is a fairly similar comparison in that it has a static map where you follow the story from zone to zone in a generally linear fashion. Zones are pretty big in both games. But also like in Sacred, if you venture too far off the story path then you quickly become out-leveled. So both games kind of funnel you through, but in end-game/late-game the enemies are scaled to you.
