Grim Dawn Steam VS GOG Version Difference??

Hey all,

I recently bought grim dawn but i bought it on gog
cause some one told me it was cheaper there and its drm free so it can be played offline without loggin onto steam etc..
i know gog is legit but im still kind of paranoid are there any differences?
and what is even gog?? is it like steam??
just making sure i made the right choice haha anyways love the game! going to stop playing diablo 3 cause of it

steam have steam achievement, but grimdawn it self has already achievement in it. i don't think they have so much different all features is same.

The only difference is a GOG version is DMR free. You can also buy a GOG Loyalist pack which gives you similar cosmetic features to the Steam one. GOG also has achivements if that's your thing. The game itself is exactly the same.

Main bugbear I find with GOG is unless you have their Galaxy thing installed any update of the game requires a download of the whole game again, i.e. they don't do patches. With Galaxy they do patches - weird. It's not a big problem if your internet speeds are fast, but for me a full download takes about 1.5 hours. I got bored with that so installed Galaxy.

Oh, and the GOG forum is pretty dead compared to this and the official GD forum.

And that buying it on GOG means that multiplayer works only between GOG users.

Probably depends on the game. Grim Dawn offers version-to-version patches from the offline backup page. https://i.imgur.com/VsaJCYS.png

Under account select Games, click the game, then expand "Download Offline Backup Game Installers". Lots of games in my GOG library do only have the base download there; only a handful have patches available.

I have both, originally bought on GOG, but not being able to quickly play MP with other steam friends (we installed Hamachi to play together) simply added another step and was painfull. So I bought it on sale for less than $8 for Steam. Saved guys migrated to steam...

Check your user location C:\Users\yourusername\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn it's where the game saves locally, so I would assume you would have to disable cloud saving first from inside the game in order to ..."activate the local saving", then I guess the Steam version would read from that. But I don't have any GOG client to test it, perhaps others in the GOG forums would know more.

Yes.. you need to have local saving set and the files in the proper place. Other than that GoG and Steam have the same save locations locally.

Can't speak for this game, but in general I avoid GOG unless it's for old classic games. I've been burned before by buying modern games and the devs took ages to patch the GOG version while the Steam version had been patched already. One dev even flat out didn't release DLC for the GOG version of their game but I can't recall which one that was. I have nothing against GOG itself, it's great, but devs have a tendency to treat it like a red headed step child.

It isn't the devs taking forever to patch games on GoG. It's GoG's installers, and their slow-af certification and "testing" system. The delays are on GoG and the way CD Projekt Red has the certification, testing, downloading and installing set-up. Most devs ship the updates to all platforms at once, and try to co-ordinate the certification and platform approval/testing time so that all major updates ship to all platofrms at once. Hotfixes or delays on the platform's side are not any dev's fault. GoG just happens to be the platform that takes even longer than Apple or Microsoft. Which is a looooooooooong time.

gog has "fair pricing" in steam u hv to pay whatever the dollar price is but in ur currency for example a game costs 49.99$ and u live in europe u hv to pay 49.99€

now gog fair pricing chrges the same amount but it will give u a discount on your next buy equal to the discrapancy from 49.99$ to 49.99€
