Do you pause and quit to save a hardcore character from certain death?
With a full time job and a girlfriend, I don't have much time to play games as much as I used to. However, I'm thrilled by hardcore modes as I find them very enjoyable.

I've already lost a 86 commando, a 67 purifier, a 58 blade master and a 31 tactician.

Recently I started a new character, a cabalist, which recently it level 70 and who I've saved from certain death by pausing the game and quitting. This made me wonder what other people would do in this situation: would you let the Hero die, or would you save him/her?

Let me know! And have an happy new year :D

He would die, as nature - and Grim Dawn - intended. Time invested doesn't give him a get out of jail free card and I'm not attached to a character simply because I've put tons of hours into him. The only way that would happen is if he died from a clear bug or system malfunction of some variety - then I might consider some form of resurrection depending on my mood.

Otherwise there is no point in playing hardcore. You can effectively get the same thrill you are deriving from it in softcore as well the only difference being you are making it more complicated than it needs to be as you aren't even playing hardcore. What you're really doing is playing "Convoluted Softcore But I'll Tell Myself I'm Playing Hardcore".

Basically, if I died I'd raise my voice and cuss alot, slam my foot into the ground, if my wife were in the room when it occurred I would then proceed to blame it on her for being bad luck (similar to the superstition that women on ships at sea is bad luck) because I'm a misogynistic pig - then I'd suck it up and reroll a new character and get on with it.

Full time job, wives/girlfriends, children etc. do not enter into the equation when it comes to diablo-likes or rogue-likes. These are genres that are based on RNG (and some amount of knowledge and maybe a little skill). You go with what RNGesus deals you or you find a different genre.. that's my philosophy anyway.

And yes, I take my RNG seriously (and sometimes not-so-seriously). It all depends on how the dice fall. Happy New Year.

How on earth did you level 27 level 100 characters in 3 days???

I didnt. I've been playing the game since 2013 so I have tons of characters. I was planning on doing a clean wipe when FG dropped, so I just ran one character after another trying to complete 170 in crucible.

In all honesty, If you have it this way and rather "cheat" than accept death - likely HC is not for you. And I found out the same losing high level chars I invested lot of time into. Eventually this only led to abandon the game for a while.

If you play it only for achievements, do what you want/need - you may as well restore dead character by some tool (GD Defiler)

I agree, I don't see the point of playing HC if you're going to "cheat death", where is the fun in that? they died, live with it and play it better next time.

If you're going to do that, then you might as well play SC, and when you die. delete the character, or say... sod it and carry on, which is basically what your doing.

As for achievements - personally I don't care about these, I play a game to enjoy it, it's not a job!

speaking of "cheat death" there was this item https://www.grimtools.com/db/items/8988 is really good for hardcore, it kinda cheat death and delay your next death.

I use this one right now:

Nos so strong but perfectly fit my DK:-)

In general having multiple "circuit breakers" in abillities, items and devotions is very handy.

I would think that HC players would find this particular item of great value:

I personally despise the idea of HC in games like this, but I have played GD with someone whom I know plays HC purely for the completionist aspect of achievements, so for him he does 'cheat' his deaths, I don't judge I personally wouldn't do it and don't understand why people care about achievements, but yeah some people who cheat HC do so for that reason.

I started on Hardcore on accident, and am going to use this tactic as well. I'm not about to lose hours of gameplay.

Easy there, Captain Kirk.

To the op, I am firmly in the not enough free time club. I have just yesterday created my first mythical relic after owning the game for 4+ years so do what lets you have the best time with what time you have. Cheat HC, transfer characters, pause the game, it doesn't matter.

You don't have a lot of free time and regardless of what people say about time and investing, you should protect the time you put into something, that's just how it goes from a point on in life. So protect you chars.
