I'd be happy to just press Alt or something and see name labels pop up. Should be easy to do since absolutely every single item on the ground has a neatly colored label for it (which you can press Ctrl to hide/show). How hard could it possibly be to do the same for the skill screens?

Considering you're already having to manage a skill tree more complex than in most RPGs - not to mention two of them at once on separate screens, I'm surprised it wasn't added at some point.

I doubt it would take a programmer even a day to add that feature into the game.

That would also work
Why would you need to search your skill trees?

When I get an item that gives me a particular skill bonus, I need to consider what it does for my build. Since you obviously don't get enough points to max out all skills on your two classes at once, that's a critical decision every time you level up or find an item that is skill-relevant for any reason.

What I really really want is to be able to reverse assign my devotion points from top tier to lowest tier and have it automatically assign points to the constellations from last *pre*-assigned (lowest tier) to first *pre*-assigned (highest tier).

But yeah if they could at least pop the (Class) after the ability on items that would work too, such as, instead of...

+2 to Shadow Strike

...it would say...

+2 to Shadow Strike (Nightblade, Lvl.10)

Not trying to be dismissive but have you played the game?
Remembering the names of skills and there corresponding icons is impossible for me personally

You do realise that if you have Nightblade as one of your masteries that would be in a different colour to anything else listed to show it's one of your possible skills?

So for example with Dawnguard Gauntlets giving +3 to Entangling Vines and +2 to Retribution, if you have Shaman as a mastery +3 to Entangling Vines will be a different colour ingame to the +2 to Retribution. If you have Oathkeeper as well making the Archon class then they'd both be the same colour as they are both skills you could use.

Not really sure what you mean by the devotion points, but they can be bought back at the Spirit Guide or you can get a potion to reset them for free as part of some quest rewards in Ashes of Malmouth expansion.

Yes, for some 3,000+ hours. I've been playing the game since it hit day one of early access for Kickstarter backers. How about you?

Well that's for you. A lot of people don't have that problem.

Not sure what you need to search, but if you need to search for skills use Grimtools maybe?

While I'm not against the idea of the masteries having a search bar, using it to just to find skill names because I can't pair them up to their icons would be fairly low on my list of reasons I would want it.

A search would be much more useful for quickly identifying bonus synergies across a mastery or masteries.

Much more than you know. And I'd say it's rather impressively cool that at 67 years old (happy bday again, Medea) that she's logged 3K+ hours of GD, and likely more than that in TQ. Plus, as she notes, she's been involved with the game since its first glimmerings nearly (almost a decade ago now - May of 2010 was your first post on the official forums, Medea) and plays it enough that she also helps test new patches/updates for the game alongside helping moderate the official GD forums as well as the fan-made TQ forum..

Might just be me but I'd wager she has at least some inkling of what's going on.

I mean, it's sometimes weird to read certain messages from regulars and not wonder whether they still play the game or just support the forums being around and reply in every topic.

I'm with the OP in this one. It'd be handy to have a search function for skills, because hovering over every skill to find the one you want is sometimes tedious. It'd also be awesome to be able to see a highlighted bonus granted from gear to a specific skill in the skill tree. Say a piece of gear gives +1 to ABB, let us see "+1 for ABB granted from Pants Full of PooPoo" in the tooltip while wearing it.

Nice. I like how you try to write off anything I say these days, ever eager to knock heads it appears - wanting confrontation by the looks of it. Keep pushing and you might find what you seek.

Note: I always provide links where necessary because I make it a point to be able to backup anything I speak of.

We do very much play the game still and even if we didn't what of it? We know the game quite well irregardless of whether we still play or not. At most we might take breaks, as anyone after thousands of hours would.

Do note, again, my response on the topic:

In general I am never against implementation of ideas that have at least a grounded practical application to them and can bring at least some QoL to the game.

I'm not going to lose any sleep, however, whether they show up or not.

Do people really not just remember what every skill does? There aren't so many in the game that it would be difficult.
FireGryph Dec 21, 2019 @ 3:37am
They have a search bar in stash, search bar in devotions, but none in inventory or skills. I agree, its somewhat annoying, because Im in the same boat where I cant remember if my current build is using that specific nightblade skill or not. Sure, the skill bonus on an item is highlighted because it does apply to my current class, but does NOT change colour based on if I have points in that skill already or not.

If not a search in the skill tree windows, maybe add a QoL function that tells us what rank the skill will be increased to if we do equip an item with a skill bonus.
"+2 Amarasta's Quick Cut (13/8)" or something.
Because no, I cannot memorize all these skills within 2 hours of playing a new class.

There is always room for improvement. A search function for skills wouldn't be bad at all.
