Still, your main Occultist skills would be Curse of Frailty (for Vulnerability), Possession and of course Blood of Dreeg.
As for the devotions, you certainly want Murmur and Manticore. After those, I would aim for Abomination (acid branch only); Affliction also works. The rest I would pick according to your weapons and needs.
Ive played 2 poison focused toons extensively, unless you go with a slightly tankier combo like necro or soldier with occultist, being a nightblade you dont want to sit in melee combat for to long hitting things as you will die alot.
Personally I just use melee as a way to stack some poison dots, do a little extra acid damage while doing it, as such personally I wouldn't invest to heavily into Solaels (maybe 1 point wonder if you have +2 or 3 occultist skills?) The way most poison builds work is to shadow strike in, ROS, few Auto attacks to apply extra dots + devotion procs, run away, heal, kite watch everything die.
I just tried to secondary equip 2 epic 3rd cavalry pistols I found but it would only let me equip 1 - is that by design or am I missing something?
Edit: Ah n/m -I found out I need specific gear like Gunslingers Jacket

That's weird... Nightblades are ambidextrous to swish around 2 swords but they choke on 2 pistols?!?!!
Veil of Shadows is invaluable! I found that out the hard way. After discovering I would be mincemeat w/o any debuffers I riftgated back to Devil's Cross and respec'ed my top tier DW stuff and added Veil with it's darkness upgrade. That allowed me to eventually kill Gutworm and get the Supreme Treasure Box -which I think is a 1-shotter. And inside was 1 green and a bunch of yellow -plus the exp. for killing Gutworm was pfooey. Gee thanks. Veil reduces monster resists which are always increasing as you trudge on. I noticed that the screen pauses briefly and loads new bosses on Veteran so the mobs/CC aren't as easy either. But Veil is a real life-saver. Otherwise all the fancy sword tornado moves won't you.
That's for certain. He really ain't worth it. I wonder if anyone playing Normal or Veteran ever got good stuff from his stinky sock drawer.
There are other similar bosses who are hard for when you first meet them who also drop total cack (usually)
Mad Queen Im looking at you !
Oh and with a witch hunter, your best sources of damage are either shadow strike or transmuted evil eye of dreeg, since the damage over time from the poison can be made stupidly powerful.
[edit] Oh yeah - main thing I farm him for is ancient hearts, since he drops those roughly 1/4 runs. And since Act 1 is full of Beast bosses and minibosses + heroes, you can easily farm hearts there.
Witch Hunters sure aren't the most newbie-friendly builds in GD. Nightblade though can be fairly resistant. Get Pneumatic Burst (with Belgothian's Breath if you're DW, + 12/12 Shadow Dance), Veil of Shadows (10/10), Blade Barrier (1 point only) and a bunch of points on Phantasmal Armor. Veteran difficulty done ;)
