Suggested Build

Hi all, I've currently got two gun builds I'm enjoying (Physical and a Magical), a nightblade build (Focused on close range autoattacks) I'm enjoying and a pet build I'm enjoying (Cabalist).

But I would really like to play a passive aoe damage build similar to what you could make with the mage in Diablo 3, where you explode and cause area damage around yourself with a nuke for bosses. Something fast that clears trash and weaker boss mobs for farming and speedrun purposes. Does such a build exist?

EDIT: By passive I mean you dont have to go around clicking, all the damage is focused around yourself.

You could play retaliation soldier I guess? A few buttons to push of course but you basically stand in the middle of everything and laugh at them while they kill themselves.

Edit: Also, what did you go with for your physical gun based build? I went purifier but I also deal a good chunk of fire damage as a result.

Fast + passive is kind of troublesome - I'm not really sure you'll find both. You might ask here: http://www.grimdawn.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=17 . A lot of the people who post there frequently have personal experience with a wide variety of builds so they could maybe point you in the right direction.

It really intrigued me with the whole "Place down seal and facetank while shooting and laughing" style.

Vitality phantasmal blades witchhunter/reaper would probably be the way to go if you want something fast and passive. You basically just cast your phantasmal blades and trash mobs just melt. The damage output is insane especially if you have good gear and the blades also heal you. Just stick some ectoplasms on your gear and an arcane spark later on to keep ul your energy.
For bosses, you cast your debuff and time your heals while casting blades. That's about it.

I'm currently leveling a build (Deceiver - Occultist/Inquisitor combo) that might be something similar to what you are looking for, though it isn't really that passive. But I used to play a Firebird's Wizard in D3 so using that comparison, it's a bit like a reverse Tal Rasha - instead of increasing your resistances by dealing elemental damage it shreds the enemies resistance.

I'm still looking for 2 items to finish the build (weapon and legs) but I will have -114% and -32 flat Elemental Resistance shred, with 2 Heals, some CC with approximately -90% enemy move speed and various item/devotion procs. Basically, you debuff with Curse of Frailty into Word of Pain, Stormbox of Elgoloth then run around kiting with Stormfire left click spam, rinse and repeat. Still in Elite around level 78 but with no legendaries or build specific items I'm melting Heroes and Bosses without much difficulty. If you're interested this is the link to the build:

That weapon is going to be a pain in the arse to get, and I have a sub-par version of the legs but I have everything else.

Two weapons with Seal of Blades is almost exactly what I was looking for <3_<3

I don't know about passive, but there are some AoE spammy builds which don't require a lot of thought. Or targetting for that matter. Just spam and screen clear.

I suppose if you really, really try hard enough you could stack a ton of passive procs for relatively decent trash clear. But that would require a lot of specific items, and I suspect you don't already have a bunch of them waiting in your stash.

Oh, yeah just thought of this: pet builds should probably get a mention. They can actually reach pretty insane dps and can clear relatively quickly. And pet builds are notorious for being more passive.

Don't know if that qualifies with what you are looking for though

Already got a Cabalist build that tears through mob packs. And I'm looking into a Blademaster build that only has 3 active skills and the rest are procs and passives (what I'm looking for). It's just hard sifting through the hundreds of builds out there, and I'm terrible at making builds myself. My latest attempt ended up being a glass cannon...
