i think occultist has the strongest collection of buffs and debuffs, though.
Yes, but you're not supposed to take much damage anyway with a pet build and if your pets aren't strong enough you will have a hard time.
I don't like pet builds but I made a Cabalist (Necro/Occultist) and tbh I have 0 issues with dying because my pets kill things before they have a chance to aggro onto me. Only real issue I have is with Kubacabra but that's because my pets only have ~40% Bleed resist.
Quite frankly, there's too many synergistic skills for pets in Occultist to ignore; Blood of Dreeg/Aspect of the Guardian, Curse/Vulnerability and Bonds of Bysmiel/Manipulation for utility/defense and for damage you have Raven's Storm Spirit and Hellhound's Hellfire.
Soldier gives Field Command/Squad Tactics. Yay? The rest of Solider gives really nice supporting defensive passives/actives to the PLAYER not pets so you'd be gimping your pets by a lot by going with Soldier. I guess you could include War Cry in there for the -% Target's reduced damage and possibly Blindside for the -DA but that's stretching it a bit.
