Tomb of the Archon
Act IV: Elite

I am trying to get into the Tomb of the Archon, in order to get to the Shrine there, but it's locked and I can't get in. Now, I had done the Ashes quest back in Veteran, so I was expecting this to be open, but it isn't. So, I figure that I need to get the Ashes quest again for Elite as well, so that I can get into the Tomb.

I headed to the HQ of Death's Vigil, which I chose back in Veteran, but I can't get in to see the Master; his door is locked also. Hmm. I never formally made the choice between the Chosen and the Vigil when I did Act III of Elite, figuring that it would carry over; my rep with the Vigil was still at Revered level, after all.

Do I actually have to go back to Homestead and officially choose a side yet again in order to get the Ashes quest and be able to enter the Tomb of the Archon?

There like zero reason not to choose.go and pick one

Nothing carries over between difficulties except the rep gains made in previous difficulties.

Only difference is if you choose the other faction, then all gains made before are erased and you will be basically startivg over with rep gains.

Same with the Witch Anasteria. Either let her live and be able to buy her stuff or kill her and run her dungeon.

But all choices must be made again in each playthrough.

OK thanks.

It just seems so redundant.

So apparently I have to do all he Vigil tasks over again ... get the remains of Maldekarr, the essence of Novaria etc. Seriously, who thought it would be a great idea to make a game where you had to repeat the same scenarios three times?

Worst game concept ever. Well, with the possible exception of XCOM: Long War mod.

How else do you propose to gain rep exp fast? doing the same rep table quests over and over?

Sooner or later you will get the final quest when your rep is hi enough.

Come on, you cannot possibly tell me you didn't understand what elite and ultimate was up until this point. You've been around for quite a while.

You haven't played any of the Diablos, PoE, TQ, any other arpg which has gone through this 3-times spiel?

And yes, for all the nit-pickers, I realize PoE and D3 have shifted away from tradition but it was only recently, and D3 is arguably just as repetitive under a different theme (abandoning repetitive 3 times through for repetitive endless rifts).

I had the same thoughts in mind with his over 1k hours in game. Was it spent sleeping with the game on?

Just because I have a decent amount of time in the game doesn't mean I can't find fault with the mchanics or design. Yes, I knew that the story lines of the three difficulties repeated, but I didn't know until just now that I had to also repeat some of the Faction quest lines as well.

Also, most of that time invested was used to bring 10 characters through Veteran; I then picked the one I liked best to go through Elite, ergo my experience in Elite is not as huge as you might expect. I am in my first run through and half way though Act IV. All I wanted here was to be able to get to the shrine in the Archon's Tomb to get another devotion point. But it turns out that I have to do a whole complicated routine in order to open the damned door.

As for game design, I would point to the Beamdog version of the old Baldur's Gate trilogy. It took me 18 months of fairly frequent play to go through all three parts with one character. No repitition of plot lines, lots of side quests, and even some hidden things.
