Disable the OC if the problem persists and you will likely find that your crashes disappear as well. If disabling the OC doesn't work then underclocking it as outlined in the post will almost surely cure it.
As far as being sad to use DX9, don't be. Any visual difference between the 9 and 11 versions is hardly noticeable and with such an old GPU you're better off taking whichever goes easier on your hardware.
This is not the case before. I had a old Gigabyte Radeon HD 6950 1GB DDR5 that every 5m of gameplay in Grim Dawn give a black screen with music and the game cursor. I tried every trick in the book and none worked. So, since i've managed to play other heavier games such as Mass Effect Andromeda and Assassin's Creed Origins with the 6950 i've decided to tested this GPU.
I've run AMD Cleanup Utility to remove every piece of AMD software and drivers, disable driver update via Windows (yes, this may cause some problems if you leave it enabled...), installed new card, new drivers, no anti-virus software (if you know what you do on the web you don't need no anti-virus...) and voilá... 1h straight of game play with no problems so far.
I'll continue to teste this new rig to see if any problem occurs...
Considering the fact that the OP's issue was likely due to his far older GPU I'm going to go out on a limb here and surmise that whatever his issue was IS NOT your issue. You following all that?
Just want to say I'm still burning up my non-OC GTX 580 with no problems. It doesn't seem to care about DX11.
A quick look at the RTX 2080 Super's spec sheet makes it look a lot like a RTX 2080 that either A) wasn't factory-neutered or B) binned high enough to enable extra cores and more max power. Underclocking it to RTX 2080 speeds might just show improved stability in Grim Dawn.
I've seen over 20 possibly solutions to this ''straightforward problem'' you mentioned. Including some of the following examples:
- Boot in x64.
- Boot in DX9. Problem remains
- Underclock GPU mentioned in this thread. Problem remains, and occurs on my 2060 in laptop as well. So this doesn't line up.
- Reinstall game.
- Lower graphics.
Looking up this problem shows multiple links each with completely different solutions and no clear answer. If this problem has a straightforum solution on the user's end, pray tell because I could use the answer.
Edit: Oh, btw, ^this guy calling people idiots is so ironic.
Anything else tho you can usually safely assume it is on the user-end, and as such, can only be fixed on the user-end.
Alot of times these problems are a result of something on the person's OS itself, that they may or may not have personally installed/updated etc. Sometimes corruption occurs with drivers as well, for varying reasons.
This is simply the way of it. Welcome to the land of the PC and the troubleshooting of it.
/rolleyes
Kids these days, they think annoyed = triggered and don't understand anything when you don't lay it out in the really f*cking simplest of terms. Or it's made further clear by other people you actually understand this stuff, like powbam.
Or in other words - the point - you have missed it completely and are digging your self in further into teh stupid. Guess I'll just get the popcorn out, because it's not worth explaining sh*t to you if you lack the brains to grasp it, let alone even bother to read the fluffing post in the first place.
Could be worse though, could be doing ye olde clue-by-4ing of a climate change or evolution denier like the good old days. Because this I don't have to spend hours researching and writing to try and penetrate a reinforced concrete skull with a metaphorical bunker-buster. Or have the fallout of fractal wrongness as the idiot digs themselves in further via cherry picking, ignoring stuff and ye olde moving of the goalposts etc.
"Out! Out, brief candle,Life is but a walking shadow,a poor player that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, then is heard no more. It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing"
