Yet again, black screen with cursor.
I'm lvl 44 and so far I had no problem with the game, but not it crashes now and then, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up progress for me, the game crashes to a black screen and I can still hear and interact with stuff, I see the cursor aswell.

I've seen a lot of people with this problem, tried downgrading the graphic level, updating gpu drivers, going borderless and using the repair.exe with no luck so far.

I'm playing with a 580 GTX ti and have 0 fps drop issue so far beside the crashes, any help? Thanks.

same here with win7 gtx 980, drivers up to date, every other game works just fine and from one day to another grim dawn freezes to black screen randomly.

I think I fixed it by adding /d3d9 at the launch parameters. Sad to use dx9 but meh.

To be fair.. your GPU is a bit on the older side (the 580 released way back in 2010). Even tho it supports DX11 I've noticed that the older cards seem to have some issues handling GD with DX11 enabled. My opinion on your crashes tho, if they continue to persist, is to take The_Messes advice in his linked post. GD doesn't much like overclocks and your card is factory OC'ed (as all Ti versions tend to be).

Disable the OC if the problem persists and you will likely find that your crashes disappear as well. If disabling the OC doesn't work then underclocking it as outlined in the post will almost surely cure it.

As far as being sad to use DX9, don't be. Any visual difference between the 9 and 11 versions is hardly noticeable and with such an old GPU you're better off taking whichever goes easier on your hardware.

Let me tell about my experience: my GPU is also a old one, AMD Radeon HD 7770 2GB DDR5, but i'm able so far to play *almost* every game that i´ve installed.

This is not the case before. I had a old Gigabyte Radeon HD 6950 1GB DDR5 that every 5m of gameplay in Grim Dawn give a black screen with music and the game cursor. I tried every trick in the book and none worked. So, since i've managed to play other heavier games such as Mass Effect Andromeda and Assassin's Creed Origins with the 6950 i've decided to tested this GPU.

I've run AMD Cleanup Utility to remove every piece of AMD software and drivers, disable driver update via Windows (yes, this may cause some problems if you leave it enabled...), installed new card, new drivers, no anti-virus software (if you know what you do on the web you don't need no anti-virus...) and voilá... 1h straight of game play with no problems so far.

I'll continue to teste this new rig to see if any problem occurs...

Welcome to the Wah-mobile in the Necropolis. In case you aren't too quick on the pick up there can be a variety of reasons you can experience your issue - nearly all of them resolvable (and a result of) on the user end.

Considering the fact that the OP's issue was likely due to his far older GPU I'm going to go out on a limb here and surmise that whatever his issue was IS NOT your issue. You following all that?

You've just a) necro'd a 2yr old thread and b) It's usually an straightforward problem to fix that's due to something on the user's end, not with the game itself, unless it's UPNP issues of course.

Just want to say I'm still burning up my non-OC GTX 580 with no problems. It doesn't seem to care about DX11.

A quick look at the RTX 2080 Super's spec sheet makes it look a lot like a RTX 2080 that either A) wasn't factory-neutered or B) binned high enough to enable extra cores and more max power. Underclocking it to RTX 2080 speeds might just show improved stability in Grim Dawn.

Well a) I didn't know there was some unwritten rule saying it's not allowed to post in an old post. The forum allowed me to post a comment so I did. b) I haven't found a solution. If it's ''commonly'' on the user's end, it's still an error regarding the game. A game shouldn't have these black screens for multiple users. If this is something you see as a user's problem, I pray to god you're not a game developer yourself. Not everyone is an expert that can resolve any error, some just want to boot a game and play it without having to look up issues that are supposedly the user's responsibility and not the dev's. I have this issue both on my HP Omen laptop and my desktop. Laptop uses 2060, desktop 2080 Super. This makes me doubt it's GPU-related.

I've seen over 20 possibly solutions to this ''straightforward problem'' you mentioned. Including some of the following examples:
- Boot in x64.
- Boot in DX9. Problem remains
- Underclock GPU mentioned in this thread. Problem remains, and occurs on my 2060 in laptop as well. So this doesn't line up.
- Reinstall game.
- Lower graphics.

Looking up this problem shows multiple links each with completely different solutions and no clear answer. If this problem has a straightforum solution on the user's end, pray tell because I could use the answer.

Got a 1080 ti with i7 7700k and having this same issue, altough rarely, but still very annoying (lost a very good item last week). Saying this is an issue on users end and not on game itself is ridiculous.
Edit: Oh, btw, ^this guy calling people idiots is so ironic.

I play the game just fine without blackscreens or crashes - and have done so for years now (since late 2013) thru multiple game patches, updates, expansions etc as well as different hardware. The only current verified issue which IS an actual problem on the game's end that "freezes out" the game is an infinite loading screen problem for people not using Vsync. This is a new issue definitely related to the latest patch. Hopefully they get that issue figured out for the next hotfix.

Anything else tho you can usually safely assume it is on the user-end, and as such, can only be fixed on the user-end.

If you can give them a 100% reproducible way they can achieve it on their own systems then I'm sure they would absolutely love to know it. Solving problems such as that is quite difficult if it can't be reproduced reliably by developers. Especially when you factor in all the different hardware everyone is using, not to mention they have no idea the condition people have their systems in in general, who knows what pr0n sites they've been visiting etc.

Alot of times these problems are a result of something on the person's OS itself, that they may or may not have personally installed/updated etc. Sometimes corruption occurs with drivers as well, for varying reasons.

This is simply the way of it. Welcome to the land of the PC and the troubleshooting of it.

[edit] Damn it powbam, stop beating me to the punch :P (In my defence - I had to do some budgeting, building a new PC over 8 months via using laybuy to pay for things, I <3 spreadsheets)[/edit]

/rolleyes

Kids these days, they think annoyed = triggered and don't understand anything when you don't lay it out in the really f*cking simplest of terms. Or it's made further clear by other people you actually understand this stuff, like powbam.

Or in other words - the point - you have missed it completely and are digging your self in further into teh stupid. Guess I'll just get the popcorn out, because it's not worth explaining sh*t to you if you lack the brains to grasp it, let alone even bother to read the fluffing post in the first place.

Could be worse though, could be doing ye olde clue-by-4ing of a climate change or evolution denier like the good old days. Because this I don't have to spend hours researching and writing to try and penetrate a reinforced concrete skull with a metaphorical bunker-buster. Or have the fallout of fractal wrongness as the idiot digs themselves in further via cherry picking, ignoring stuff and ye olde moving of the goalposts etc.
