most fixed ground dmg stuff has "breaks" where you can rest just around before you die so you can use potion to heal and go again, remember potion cooldown tho
you can only break barriers(cliffs) with dynamite,
if there is a solid wall you can't get through, then you either need to find another way around, or you can't get there and are just seeing "decorative" landscape/level design
sometimes you find a hidden wall you can break with attack, like destroying a bookcase blocking a path or crumbling brickwall, but "rocks" you can break will be marked with dynamite
but there are plenty secret areas in the game so try see if you can find a way around/through stuff, sometimes you can (other times stuff is "locked" off until later, like gate in deadmans gulch)
but there will be times where it might appear you can get "over there" when you can't and it's just part of the world layout
Aetherfire (and such) is actually not aether damage, it's "life reduction" damage, so I believe you need vitality resistance and resistance to life reduction effects. Don't quote me on this.
only tested a few mins/runs, but at a glance i took the same approx 1/7th hp bar dmg every tick, regardless of overcapped vit and 30% life reduct resist,
-so seems aetherfire/ground hazards remain unavoidable dmg, besides mirror or clusters or such "prevent death" stuff
And that is only to run past it to another place (like near Homestead)
And no, you cant do anything about it, you just dont stand in it or run past it as fast as possible (with a health pot if you need)

There is no place to stand still, no free spot to get to the other side of the green area.....
the path to the right, serves as halfway point where you can stop up and rest and make it to the gate after (don't bother going there until it's unlocked via a quest later)
all places with ground effect you can traverse can be survived "just in time"/find safe spots
Run, stop by the place on the right (which you can clean too, there are some mobs), then run to the end and open the door
Sometimes you also have to find and pull some secret switch to open entrance to some secret area.
