Mortar Trap.
Is there a way to increase the amount of shots per tick with this skill?

I'm not sure if attack speed or total speed increases would apply, and I'm mostly sure that pet speed buffs wouldn't since it counts as a player pet, but there are items that can add to the summoning limit allowing you to have more mortar traps on the field meaning more shots and if you can increase the skill to 17 points (using items with bonuses) it gains an extra summon with another at 24 points.

Doing some quick theory crafting I was able to get 4 Mortar Traps with a cool down of only 2.7 seconds, by using Pyran's Ruminations set, Mythical Anderos' Amplifier, Mythical Dawnshard Grip, and Mythical Stone of Halakor (for global skill CD reduction). You'd need the Mythical versions of everything but Halakor, since the normal versions either don't boost Mortar Trap or don't have the CD reduction. Unless someone else can confirm that player speed buffs affect it, that kind of thing is probably the closest you'd get, as there's no direct attack speed increase for Mortar Trap.

Edit for clarity: Just to be clear, the 2.7 second CD is between casts of Mortar Trap, not the Traps attacks.

Edited for accuracy.

Not that I'm aware of...

Although way back in beta, you could increase it's rate of fire by spamming the pet attack command.

Edit:
And with different gearing, you could get 7 Mortars with a .7s cooldown (before % cooldown reductions) They wouldn't be as strong, but you'd have a ton of them

Wow. I'm sort of curious how you would do that, but not too much since I don't use MT myself. Also, would it have viable defenses/resistances? I'm pretty sure you'd be hard pressed to use what I came up with in real game play.

I'd bet someone (not me!) could come up with a build that's at least playable with that, if not end game capable.

Before the last patch (and there finally being a Legendary set with dedicated Mortar Trap buffs), I was able to get 6 Mortar Traps on a 0.9 second cooldown.

My problem is that I'm unable to choose what else I want the build to do. Although the gear so far does have decent Inquisitor support, so maybe a Purifier would work. I'll think on it and see what I can cobble together. I doubt I'll get it to the point that it can threaten the Celestials and other super bosses, though.
