Any tips for someone new to the game?
Something like what skills are the most usefull to have on your charracter or some good builds for a beginner? The variety of how to build your charracter is awesome but have to admit it gets a bit hard to choose when there are so many options!

The only thing I can tell you is, take your time with progressing in the story, as well as your build. Don't make the same mistake I've done before where I rushed the story, and ended up getting slaughtered everytime.

Which should be (more than) enough to get you started and oriented.
This is actually some of the best resources for getting started.

I would suggest signing up for an account on there as well as checking out how Devotion Trees Work. And Familarizing yourself with them.
Very simply, there are 3 character types, Melee, Ranged & Caster.

Choose the type you prefer to play then look for synergy in the Masteries. (grimtools is the easiest way to browse at your leisure).

Synergistic skills from 2 Masteries (i.e. the same element) generally make for a far more satisfactory feeling character, especially later in the game.

Once you have your type and basic theme sorted, go forth and get some levels under your belt (and some skill points to play with) then start experimenting with your theme.

You can put one point into skills, smack the target dummy silly with it to see if it suits your play style, and if you didn't like what it did, visit the spirit guide and remove it.

Don't ignore resistances. Not everything you equip has to add to your damage. You can't do damage if you're dead because you had 0 fire resistance and someone threw a molotov cocktail under your ass.

And one final point: Enjoy exploring, it's a big world with plenty of interesting places, secrets and hidden quests.
I would say that one of the most straightforward build to start the game with is Warlord: Soldier + Oathkeeper. You have to like melee though.
With this build, focus mainly on the 2 bottom skill lines of soldier for defense, and choose for attacks Aegis of menhir and Righteous fervor from Oathkeeper.
And focus on the blue and yellow points in Devotion, Physique in attribute, globally all armor that increase your resistances and prefer a shield-based build because it's associated with great defense skills in Soldier and blue/yellow constellations.
I found it a good way to start exploring the game with enough survivability to handle most bosses and learn the subtleties progressively.

I would choose more magical builds after playing first a soldier-based build and getting to know the game a bit better, because skill associations and right balance between offensive and defensive skills is harder for magic. At least it's my opinion and experience, but maybe someone else can recommend you a magical build that could be easy to begin with.

Most important, explore, try and have fun :) You could try different builds playing just through Act 1 in Normal to test if it suits your game style, then try another if you don't like it.

- Focus on the story. Take every quest and read every piece of paper you find.
As far as I've seen up to Ashes of Malmouth, there's no sidequest that's a bs errand. Everything people ask you to do is of significant importance to their lives or the well-being of others.
Try to immerse yourself into the story and explore everything.

- Make multiple characters and explore the classes. See what classes compliment each-other. For example you can combine Occultist with Necromancer - both have skills and abilities that boost Vitality dmg type.

- Try to find items that boost the damage output of your skills. You can find your accumulated dmg boost in the second tab on your character interface.
Also take a look at the damage types list, because almost all damage types have a partnering dmg type. For example Cold / Frostburn - Cold is the damage dealt on attack and Frostburn is damage over time after the attack.
I just recently have started the game myself and experienced the weirdness of it, so let me tell you some important things.

After you chose your first mastery, focus on a damage type, preferably something your mastery supports. You know like poison damage, vitality damage, fire damage, internal trauma and so on.

Get to know your skills and choose your devotions wisely. Luckily its quite cheap to change your skill and devotion build up, but i wouldnt toy around with it indefinitely. After you understood the basics, you should use the site "grimtools" to theorise your build. I would still advise to choose your skills and devotions to somewhat match your focused damage type.

Resilience is key in this game. Doesnt matter which mastery you choose, if you want to be a tank, an assassin or a mage, at least half of your attribute points should always go into physique. Also get your resistances up to maximum. Quite helpful for normal, quite needed in veteran, absolutely needed in elite and ultimate.

In terms of using your skill points, you should again ask yourself what you need from your skill. For example, i play Paladin (Oathkeeper/Inquisitor) focused on fire damage. I have one point in the skill "Guardian of Empyrion" but fully maxed out its bonus "Celestial Presence". Thats because i dont really need the guardians to do damage, which would be the case if i maxed out the skill, but i just need their aura which gives -30% fire damage resistance to enemies from "Celestial Presence".

You will need some time to accomodate, but it shouldnt take long.
Don't force your second mastery until you know you're using at least 5-7 of your main mastery first [nearly maxed out attacks etc.]
Ah, new generetion of gamers... "Tell me how should I play the game because I'm too lazy to decide for myself".
Well, ok. Don't stick to any builds, just learn the game by yourself. Read some basics about game mechanics (official site or Steam guides section) for better understanding of how it works. Good understanding of the game's mechanics will help you to make better heroes. Wich heroes should you make? It depends on you 100%! Just go and experiment and discover. And don't forget to buff your resistances. If you will get any specific questions during your journey, you can find answers in guides.
This game is a sandbox about building awesome death machines. Sticking to any build-guide will destroy 80% of the fun.

Just press buttons dude.
Im new also, i think the best way is to start chars and go until lvl 10 with eachone trying one masterie tree per character. and then sell the masteries and choose another to know how are the mechanics, and check which is more funny for you. Suddenly you will see that with one char you will continuing play more than lvl 10. That is yours...

Once you pick a Mastery you are stuck with it.. But yeah. Good Idea.
Buy blueprints especially! Late game is where you want to be!
Practice using the loot filter (located near the bottom-left corner of the screen) early. Otherwise you'll end up travelling to town every few minutes just to empty your inventory, then going back out to quickly refill it, over and over again.

Attributes are deceptively important, especially physique. Every Grim Dawn character has to be built at least somewhat like a tank, and physique is the most important attribute for tanking.

Crowd control is the second most important thing all Grim Dawn characters should be capable of (second to tanking). You might want to focus on single-target damage and go around one-shotting enemies one at a time, but as far as I know, that's impossible. You'll end up buried in waves of lesser enemies.

It's possible to replace 100% of your normal attacks with those 'chance of blank on hit' moves, but if you replace more than 100%, they start competing against eachother for the chance to activate.
I recently built the two shot relic and I picked up a legendary single hand pistol, mixing with sexy blue. 4 shots per second. Level 52 is bliss. Man this game is addictive! Forbidden zone! Got me hot. Took a break. Pressed space bar. Game paused. Went to beach with dogs 3 hours. Came back. This game continues. That's how STABLE this beautiful climax of grim dawn commando is.
