There are other decent pistols around, though. Empowered Marauder's Fury is pretty much as good as Havoc even though it's only classed as epic.
Just rushing through Elite, not even doing side quests.... I think they dropped somewhere in Act 2
Thanks guys
Load up with Devil-touched ammo, apply Hexxer's Kiss to the weapon and Hexxer's Delight to a couple of rings, then boost fire damage even further with gear. I've got something like 800% fire damage increase on my Purifier on Veteran difficulty. Since Purifier is all about fire/lightning, using Flame touched and Fire strike gives a large fire damage output.
Please be serious. That statement is a gross exaggeration. I did say the fire conversion was due to it being used by my Purifier. If I were using it with a soldier build, say a Warder using a Gunslinger Talisman for example, and he was focused on physical/puncture damage I'd load it with Silvercore and get gear that buffed puncture damage.
Havoc has a lot of buffs that justify converting it to a fire based weapon for my Purifier. Increased attack speed, increased overall speed and a life leech effect are all quite useful properties. urthermore, neither my Oathbreakers, Empowered Marauder's fury nor Madiators do as much damage, despite having undergone the same treatments.
Lastly, I challenge you to find any yellow pistol in the game that comes anywhere near matching Havoc in offesive firepower.
"Gunslinger" has always been kind of vague to me so I'm assuming "build a toon around them" to mean he would actually use Soldier. Otherwise you're kind of wasting those beautiful skill points. :/
Inquisitor builds are the ones most suitable for a gunslinger type. You can, of course, make a
Soldier/Inquisitor build (Tactician), but then, as I mentioned earlier, you won't be concentrating on elemental damage; you will be using a default attack like Cadence rather than Fire strike.
Purifier =>Inquisitor + Demolitionist.
The Demo part of the build is what calls for a specialization in fire and/or lightning damage.
A build without Inquisitor as part of it needs special gear in order to be able to dual wield pistols.
I don't think the OP had actually made one yet. He just said that he found two Havoc pistols, and wanted to know if they were good enough to build a character around them. It was a question simply looking for information, which seems to have triggered a whole spate of somewhat tangential responses.
I don't really need a basic Grim Dawn education. I'm saying that "Gunslinger" only really implies using two pistols - as that is what the items named "Gunslinger" enable in Grim Dawn. It doesn't say much about actual class or build. You think Inquisitor is most suitable? For a long time Pyromancer was essentially unmatched for DW ranged builds - and it is still very very strong for that purpose, arguably better than something with Inquisitor. People also used "Gunslinger" to refer specifically to DW ranged Sorcerers - I assume because of the damage types the relics buffed and added or something else from pre-1.0.0.6 when I started playing. It just doesn't say much by itself.
The only reason I say that Inquisitor is most suitable is that DW and other firearms usage buffs are an inherent part of its skill tree; no extraneous gear is required. Of course anyone can DW pistols with the right gear. I have a Saboteur who DWs pistols, using a Marauder Talisman (DW pistols work with Blade Burst). But it does take up a gear slot in order to do so.
