Try disabling it, restart, then run Repair.exe
I am admin, and it is disabled :/ new ideas though, so that's forward motion. Hopefully I can get this solved.
I could at least run repair.exe but it didn't help. Deleting options.log and video options didn't help either. Reinstall neither
I've tried all the same. I played the original quite a bit. nearly beat it I think. But when I got the DLC it wasn't working anymore. Honestly, I support the game, and don't mind the money, I think it's spent to support a good game. I'd just like to hear from the devs or someone to get my copy running. I've emailed and heard nothing yet. Really hoping for something.
I did post on their forum, no luck yet. Currently emailing with a developer, but it's not going too well. Seems like he's trying to help but doesn't quite know whats going on. It's a pain in the butt.
Yes to all. I've tried putting the game and stuff in every whitelist on my antivirus, deleting the options, and i have steam cloud disabled. I also agree that the weirdest thing is the Repair.exe being totally nonfunctional. I've since found out that the first part will state that options.txt is unreachable or whatever, and the last part, for installing runtimes, says it can't find the files. So I'm really clueless on it. I've also since found that it seems the issue has to do with it (the game) not being able to write anything to my computer. If I shut off steam saving in the options.txt and run the game, I can't create a character, so not only does the game not overwrite options.txt when i change options, but it can't even save characters or anything else. It's really really strange. I'm wondering if somehow it's fragmented to hell or something.
Have you tried:
- Right-click the repair.exe and tell it to 'Run as Administrator'?
- Make sure your game files aren't somehow set to 'read only'?
- Use Steam to verify integrity of game files?
- Try disabling/enabling the DLC in Steam?
- Whitelist/add exception for Grim Dawn in your anti-virus/firewall?
- Tried different settings in your computer's graphics card profiles?
(edit*) It really sounds like you don't have administrator priveleges in the folder or disk you are using for the game or Steam, or that something is set to read-only.
To see if you have the same issue as me, try this: launch the game, press alt tab (it shouldn't do anything) but don't click on the screen at all. If you do it will trigger windows to attempt to shut it down and everything for mine seems to fail at that point. Just launch the game, once your screen goes black, press alt+tab once, and then watch a video or something on your phone or whatever. Give it at least ten minutes. if you end up on desktop, click on the game and it should be running. I'd really appreciate if you try this, and let me know if yours also delays launch, or if yours really does just not launch at all.
Run as Admin led to no change.
Which game files exactly? my options.txt isn't read only at the very least. Not sure if there are other files I should check on.
Steam verify muliple times, all files there/intact.
Both enabled and disabled DLC. No change I think. Not sure if the waiting thing works with DLC installed, since i don't think i noticed that until after I disabled DLC.
Totally whitlisted.
Possible issue that I will check on. My card might have some OCing set up at the moment, not entirely sure. MSI 1080ti. I think i have the stock OCing turned on. I'll give it a try shutting that off. Might also be worth me messing with a few nvidia side graphics options to override GD's settings. don't expect much, that (in my findings) usually makes things worse, not better, but worth a shot.
