Can I change the viewing angle
I'm new to this game, just bought it last night. I really hate the camera angle and can't find a way to change it, even scrolling in keeps more or less the same angle. The way it is at the moment you can actually see further ahead by pointing the camera left or right and using the corner of the screen. I find it really annoying that you can't just look straight ahead. Is there a way to get the camera more behind you than overhead. In fact why can't you pan on the vertical anyway.

Mabe there's a mod that does that, I dunno. But consider that the features you're asking for are virtually unheard of in aRPGs or cRPGs. I don't even rotate the camera 99,9% of the time.

Unheard of in arpg's ? , it's normal in arpg's.

Edit- I do mean rotate around the vertical axis so that it's behind you in case you've mis understood me, moving the camera downwards whilst keeping it at the same angle wouldn't let you see any further in fromnt would it. Perhaps I didn't describe what I meant properly. Likae other arpg's like Witcher (all of them) Elder scrolls (all of them) Dragon Age, Kingdoms of Amulur, Dragons Dogma etc. Anyway, my bad, pan was a bad choice of word. But I did say change the angle.

Actually, while you are kinda on the right track you are also on the wrong track. Grim Dawn is in the arpg genre, true, but it belongs to a sub genre of that genre (and yes, there is a big difference)... the diablo-like, the hackn slash. These types of games do not traditionally allow camera movement. There were one or two I believe but on the whole it is a unique trait in the sub genre. The games you listed belong in the broader Arpg category and are not diablo-likes.

So you can be thankful actually that GD bucks the norm here. I love it and hope more diablo-likes use it. As for why no up/down panning? Because diablo-likes are top-down games and this is how they are meant to be played.

Well, traditional or not, google is your friend. Apparently if you are not averse to mods, a soltution has been around for a while

;) yup forgot about those mods.. I remember way back in the day the first person that was messing around with the camera some time ago showing 1st person pics. It was pretty cool. I'd probably try it for sh!ts n giggles sometime but nothing more than just to mess around.

Same. I did play Silverfall (which has that kind of camera) with and without expansion, and while it was flashy and new at first, it also was quite the hassle. It felt like half the game consisted of fighting with the camera, more than that in some battles.

Yea... diablos aren't conducive to 1st person. You'll become instantly lost the moment you get rushed and surrounded. Targeting critical enemies? Out the window.. best of luck.

The devs disagree, this is their discription of the game -
Enter an apocalyptic fantasy world where humanity is on the brink of extinction, iron is valued above gold and trust is hard earned. This ARPG features complex character development, hundreds of unique items, crafting and quests with choice & consequence.
BTW as far as how it is "meant to be played" I think games are meant to be played in the way you enjoy them but hey, if you are "ruled by rules" I s'pose that's what you enjoy. I'm being facetious aren't I, apologies but my point is you play the way you enjoy playing and that makes it right.

Thanks, that sounds like just what I'm looking for.

It can in the way I discribed, you have complete freedom to move the camera to any angle you want.

Thanks all for your input.

Wrong... that does not denote disagreement... it is common practice to simply name diablo-likes arpg's as it is familiar to most people to do so. They are, however, decidedly a different branch on the tree. Anyone familiar with the topic will tell you the same.

I am very familiar with the topic and the distinction with the genres and have played most all diablo-likes as well as the more "popular" type arpg's which you appear to be more familiar with.

Do you think if you just say "Wrong" like some bully that makes you right. You are very wrong and you don't speak for the devs nor do you speak for all people who play this game.

Think as you wish. If you wish to imagine a single word as "bully", feel free. And I am right. I don't speak for the devs but I know them well enough to know that they know the distinction as well. Grim Dawn is a "diablo-like" arpg. It stems from Titan Quest, which took its inspiration for game style from Diablo and expanded upon the concept.. many games take inspiration from the Diablo-style. This is why they are known as diablo-likes (some call 'em "clones"). They are made and played a certain way. Isometric, top-down.

Play how wish. I don't hold it against you, only desired to illuminate the distinction.. try not to react automatically offensively. None was given toward you.

Use GrimCam and rotate that freaking camera however you want. There is even 1st person camera mod somewhere... Not sure if it works after the update though. Enjoy your RPG experience in a classic isometric ARPG game, you hentai weirdo :steammocking:
