I keep rerolling around lvl 40
Not sure why, I now have 3 builds around 35-40, played 60+ hours already and haven't even done a complete playthrough yet! I guess the build starts to mature and I see how it can play out and maybe things become a little repetitive. Currently, I have a necro/occul that is just mowing things down with no difficulty. I find myself trying to come up with other builds in grimtools and I ask myself what am I doing? Altitis is real...

I made it to Fort Ikron. Should I just force myself to finish, will things kind of pick up, for whatever reason this area of the game gets boring, the progression slows, zones are really large with little change unlike the first few zones that have many little caves and side quests and many devotion shrines. I feel things get spread out and lengthy in these later acts.

Will things pick up, does the game change, does the game get harder? What is A4 and A5 like? What happens when I complete a playthrough, you do another diffliculty? Is it different?

It slowly gets harder, but the challenge really doesn't come until you play on elite or especially ultimate. I really can't give you any advice on whether you should just push through or not. Just know that I am doing the same as you and I get to the level 50's and end up thinking of another class and play style to try out. Without actually counting. I think have about 10 active characters and probably have deleted dozens of others.

Pretty much the only difference in difficulties is that your resistances are reduced and then enemies hit a lot harder. So you continue to level up and look for better gear to try and get your resistances back to 80%. Someone else who has more knowledge about the difference in difficulties will have to tell you more than I can. So sorry about that.

I have come to the conclusion that I will rarely ever completely level a character and just reroll a new one ever so often. For me I think that makes a great game that I can want to start over and try new things ever time.

That's basically the sum of it, as ever in these types of games. The only real difference aside from the difficulty spike is, of course, better gear (Legendaries/Mythical Legendaries) and there are a couple of secret questlines that are Utlimate-only.

Okay cool I wasn't sure if there was really anything else. I have not made it to ultimate yet. Ive been close, but not there yet. I play hardcore only and end up dying at some point near the end on elite. I'll have to check out those ultimate quest lines more. Thanks.

Since you're already at Fort Ikon, I would definitely see things through. You're nearly there.

Then you'll get to see whether Act 5 and Elite (Act 1) are difficult and interesting enough for you.

Frankly, being able to find brand-new items is why I want to get to level 50 at the very least. :AWESOME:

Legendary Items represent the pinnacle of power in Grim Dawn. These are the items about which tales are told and legends are born. They bestow the most potent bonuses and item skills. Rightfully so, Legendary items are even harder to find than Epic items. Having one drop is cause for celebration.

Legendary items have their names displayed in purple and have unique item art. Legendary items begin to drop around level 50.

How the heck do you get 3 builds/characters to Fort Icon in just 60 hours of play? That's 15 hours per character? I have 4 level 57 guys and it took me like 600 hours (or around 150 hrs per character) to get to those levels. I think I hit Fort Ikon around level 50.

You must be totally omitting some quest lines.

Your times actually seem really slow. My character now is just a little over 30 hours worth of gameplay and he is a level 58. Even that seems slow to me. Yes I do every quest and collect every shrine. My first playthrough I'm sure took a lot longer though.

Actually his times are more normal, yours is the one that is extremely abnormal. 150 hours to get a toon to not even 60 is pretty overkill, especially if that is literally all straight playtime with no afk.

The more experienced you are with the game and where everything is the faster and faster you should be getting going about your business.

I think you must have totally done some imaginary quest lines. :AWESOME:

I have to add one thing which is only kind of difficulty-related: build complexity. Builds get more complex and, imo, more interesting to play as level continues to increase - something that eventually grinds to a stop if you don't move on up.

Normal/vetern is a joke. If you keep switching characters at that point, then you will always be disappointed. The bottom line that even the crappiest of builds can start to shine when you have a good set of gear in the end game. You have never even gotten to the point where you can get legendaries.
DalekRek Oct 25, 2017 @ 12:35am
You could be getting a bit burnt out on the build youre on. Maybe try out a new build for a few levels with a new character and then see if that helps you come back to the first one. Thats what I'm doing right now (doesnt help I kinda screwed up my veteran mode for my first build and corrupted it.... oops)

Thanks for the help guys. I was hoping its just not me.

One thing I really like doing is creating thematic builds rather than the strongest builds so it can slow me down. But I don't mind. For example, I want to do this Hunter build where you have one single pet with ranged. But I am having some issues figuring it out. This must be a testament to how awesome the game is if it motivates me this way.

Well, I've had alt-itis in GD for quite some time. I can testify it is pretty awesome. Welcome to the club!
