Grim Dawn
That said, I'm having a lot of fun with Din's Curse.
And if you just want to kill under a variety of scenarios, Victor Vran (newer one).
But for a complete and more commited ARPG experience it's hard to go wrong with this game. It is just that it's a bit more difficult than T2 and takes a bit of time to learn how to build properly etc.
GD is more nuanced and provides a better experience overall. Assuming of course that MP isn't something you highly prioritize. True both GD and D3 have MP however MP in D3 is far more fluid and easier to utilize then it is in GD. GD's MP is a lot like what MP was in the 90s - p2p with most of the impetus placed on the player to get things rolling.
Also, D3 is far easier than GD is due to how the loot system works in D3 compared to GD. D3 has a 'smart loot' so that items will most likely drop that your character can use. GD is like D2 and other ARPG's in which the loot that drops is random and may or may not help you at all. Personally I prefer GD's version because a rare item can drop that makes you think... WOW I should make X character next to use this. I find that fun, some people find it tedious and hate making alts.
TL/DR - if you want a game to hop on and kill some mobs and you aren't into looking at builds online or hunting for drops... play D3. If you want a longer and more in-depth expereince I'd say GD. If it helps I own both and have over 900hrs with GD whereas I basically stopped playing D3 after a friend also quit.
If we are talking strictly pc, GD no contest.
If you want several hours of gamepley and don't intend to replay the game over and over again Diablo III is a little better here as it gets flashy and cool fast.
If you want deep stat and gear systems, where you can seriously do a lot of things like merging classes, adding skills on top of skills (devotion) and don't mind doing the campaign several times, take Grim Dawn. But don't be thrown off at the beginning - it is a little slow progressing
Hitting 70 is a breeze, cooking up good builds and finding not only the right set pieces and uniques but well statted ones to make it work is not.
Where Grim Dawn shines is with the awesome setting and lore, I love it, and in gameplay depth in terms of mechanics. And last and (imo) least it looks a fair bit better than D3 as well, being a much newer game.
Edit: And yeah I have to agree with Gart there, I don't like how in D3 certain class sets are just straight up way more powerful than others or if you want to make a build primarily consisting of uniques work, at least if you care about season leaderboard rankings and such.
Another edit: Shadowblazer what in the blazes are you on about with D3 being laggy ? Assuming you aren't on awful low speed weak signal wifi or something, lag shouldn't be an issue at all.
Did not diablo three also do away with most of its player interaction such as market and such. I know shortly after i joined they closed down Diablo 3s Player Market.
If you want a challenge that will actively try to kill you, play Grim Dawn.
They did, and it is a much more fun game to play because of it imo. The market was not fun, at all.
