Lets bet how bad the minions in necromancer class will be
Humanity should put diablo 2 and guild wars 1 up for one of the greatest mysteries of all time.
AKA How did they perfect the micromanaging army of minions while every other videogame has to have a time limit on summons.
That ruins everything about the necromancer!
Even diablo 3 is setting up the example of only having 7 melee skellies and 9 second long mage skellies.
My taste in music is quickly turning into disturbed/linkinpark these last few months with these "necromancer" updates

No one complains that it's necessary to ever resummon minions, people complain about the "summon two minions for ten seconds each, with a two minute cooldown between each cast" type of nonsense that some devs like to implement.
Typically when people play as a minion master build, they want the minions to be viable, and many game devs seemingly don't understand that so they make the minion master just a bad spellcaster with some useless meatshields running around them.

I think this is actually one of a very few devteams we can have faith in though. I'm sure the initial release might be unbalanced in one direction or another but they're pretty good about balancing updates and making sure things are viable.

They already went with the "appease the nerds" approach by adding a freaking necromancer class. And now you want "permanent" summons? Go play hello kitty adventure island.

Try harder next time. This is so pathetic it hardly even counts as bait.

Bwahahahaha! Are you serious? The only reason they released a necromancer class (I'm sure they were looking to do something more creative) was the b....bu.....but! NECROMANCER PLZ! Begging by nerds wearing rose tinted glasses. They want everything to be D2 and D3. Someone's not allowed to have a different creative direction that doesn't include their Necromancer fanboyism. I don't blame Crate, because they're trying to sell a DLC. It's just really sad that we got another "Necromancer" instead of something more creative.

That's much better bait; it includes plenty of personal attacks, factually incorrect statements, and a smug sense of superiority. I knew you could do it.
Use what you have learned here today to make your first post better next time, because it's unlikely you'll get the replies you want in this thread, considering I pointed out what you were doing.

I don't know about many here wanting anything to do with D3 in their GD (with the exception of the excellent work Grimer has done on his D3 Classes[www.grimdawn.com] mod) and naturally many people's love of Necro comes from D2 and also Guild Wars (which did an excellent job of it).

Regardless, Necro fans have been requesting it for a number of years on the GD forums (likely since at least 2012) and it is undoubtedly the single most requested mastery since that time. I also believe that it has been at least 2 years or so since I seen Rhis essentially confirm that Necro was going to happen, so this all actually old news.

I highly doubt Necro-love is the sole realm of the "nerds". Personally I wanted a Dual-shield mastery and medierra actually did ask his programmers for me on the feasability of implementing it but they reported back that it would take quite a bit of work to make it happen in the engine. It is what it is.

Everything I stated was true. You must have missed the NECROMANCER PLZ groveling topics. But yeah, now that they finally got their necromancer, it's still not good enough and it needs INFINITE duration pets. This topic is a complete joke, so my response is directed at my thoughts about this topic. Bite or don't bite, I don't care. But I stand behind what I said 100%.

It's a shame, because Crate could have put effort into giving us something truly unique instead of something that's been done before, multiple times. So I'm not directing this at Crate, but at the necromancer fanboys.

Or, you know...we actually wanted to do a Necro cause this is our job and we want to make things we like. That it was essentially the #1 requested class was a pleasant justification.

There hasn't been a Necromancer class in ARPGs since Diablo 2, but yeah it's totally been overdone in the genre.

Is this a dig at Path of Exile (saying it's not an ARPG), or do you just not consider their Ascendancy system to be classes?

I thought they had six classes and the Ascendancy system was like a sub-specialization system?

I guess I wouldn't consider 12 passives a class...If they added a bunch of supporting skills to boot, I suppose my mistake.

Fair enough, they do things pretty different from the traditional ARPG so I completely understand why you wouldn't really consider them to be classes.
There's seven "classes," but they're more or less identical with the only differences being attribute gain and starting point on the tree. Well, that and Ascendancies, which are technically just passives, but their entire tree is passives. Some just have a more damatic effect than others. Ascendancy passives are powerful enough to make that difference.
I won't go in-depth here because this isn't really the place for it, but suffice it to say that they are powerful and transformative enough to change your playstyle between different Ascendancies pretty significantly.

I agree that time limits on summons is never fun, I understand it from a balancing perspective - and it helps to keep a summoner involved in gameplay to have to resummon but it's still not fun gameplay. The whole thing about summons is having a big army of passive damage. The way it worked in D2 was cool because you could still run damage and curses to keep your PC involved and summons alive.
DeadlyDanDaMan May 13, 2017 @ 1:51pm
The skellies in Grim Dawn will actually be better than the one's from D2. Why would I say that? Because you no longer need a corpse to be able to summon them. Having them on a timer is purely for balancing purposes.

Having to run around low level areas at the start of every game as a Necro to gather corpses so you could summon your skellies in D2 was pretty ridiculous to be honest. And don't even get me started on the boss fights where ALL your skellies were GUARANTEED to get demolished, and then you have to spend time running around the map looking for corpses, but what's that, THEY'VE ALL DESPAWNED!!! YAY!! Looks like it's time to head to that low level area again and farm some more corpses!! YIPEEE!!! Really, it was the only major flaw in the entire system to be honest.
