Would you recommend this?
Would you recommend this game to a person who never played it before?
Is it still good today, compared to newer standards and without the feelings of nostalgia?

I got the Saturn version about a year ago, and although I never played it before that, I really liked it. The one thing that doesn't really stand up is that it's a pretty short game, but the gameplay is fun and there's good replay value, plus $10 is a good price. It takes a bit of getting used to, though.

Well, I would say it's still a great game even today. Although I can imagine new players to be a bit disoriented in the beginning. So things that might be common practice today is not something you will find here. Not a bad thing per se, but newcomers might miss the goal of the game, since there's no tutorials and stuff explaining everything along the way.

But if you expect a score attack game you'll probably learn to appreciate it.

I found NiGHTS to be an abomination at the time, and I came here to say as much. This isn't even a port of the best version, so there's that. Have fun doing loop-da-loops with your terrible game.

This game really showed off what the Saturn was capable of and the HD upgrade is just amazing. Fantastic stuff, highly recommended.

It's a great game to do speed runs (or maybe I should say speedy acrobatic runs). The gameplay is quite unique and I believe it can hold it's own even today.

It would be good to check it first to see if it is the kind of gameplay you enjoy, though. It's a love or hate kind of game.

I had this game back then on my Saturn, and I liked it. But recently I played it again, and I honestly don't think it aged too well...
Mind you, I have no problems playing older games (in fact, Chrono Trigger is still my favorite game of all time), but NiGHTS feels a bit simplistic and repetitive today.

It might be worth it for the nostalgia value, but if you've never played the original, I'm not sure it's worth it now...

EDIT: If you want to buy it, you might wanna wait for the christmas sale. I know it just entered the catalog, but I wouldn't be surprised if it hits 25%, or even 50% off...

If you are one who enjoys trying to get the highest score possible or competing to be the best then its a game you may enjoy. As a kid I loved it, but I was also fascinated with the idea of flying and the music was catchy and held my attention. However if you come looking for a story you are better of playing the Wii version (which I liked......but fought to do so)

Like it has been said, newer players may not come to like it but its still just as amazing as I remember it. Plus for you trophy hunters its an easy bunch to grab.

I agree with vittau. I used to play the hell out of this as a kid, but the game hasn't aged with much grace.

This isn't to say it's a "bad" game. You could spend $10 on far worse. The game just has a lot of awkward hang overs from 90's game design and limited hardware capabilites. My #1 gripe would have to be the camera, which hugs the character too closely (likely due to horrendous draw distance). Claire and Elliot control like tanks as well, also with a horrible camera.

It's worth it if you were ever curious about the game but never had a chance to play it. Just don't expect the marvel of a title its infamous status may claim it is.

I still find this game amazing to play, it of captures the wonder of gaming feeling that you had when you were a kid. I also love that the game doesn't hold you hand at all and doesn't shove it's story in your face ruining the magic by explaining everything (I'm looking at you Wii Nights). Also even by today's standards the feeling of flight in this game is unmatched

I think it's definitely worth it. If you're willing to read the "how to play" and give it a real shot, you'll probably love it. It's still one of the best game experiences ever.

If you're just going to jump in, say "I'm confused this game sucks" and bash it, then don't bother.
arleas 17 DIC 2012 a las 19:16
I never owned the original game (Because I never owned a Saturn) thus there's no Nostalgia goggles clouding my view of this game. I dove into the game intially thinking there might be some sort of in-game tutorial, but nope. Then I read the "how to play" and played through with that in mind and did slightly better than I did before.

So is this the greatest thing ever? No. It's not even really worth $10. It's not so bad that I would be demanding a refund or anything stupid like that. It's just that I always heard this game referred to lovingly as if it was this super awesome game so I expected more than what I got out of this.

Oh and to the guy who said you could spend $10 on far worse... Yeah... Like "Towns" for example. I should have gone with my better judgement and waited for this to go on sale, but I kept telling myself "Everyone says this game is awesome." :I

The Wii version was a port of the inferior Dreamcast version. This is a port of the Dreamcast version.

My mind, alas, is tinted with the nostalgic memories of a 12 year old boy. Haven't picked this up yet, but I will. I recently got a Nintendo 64 and have been loving some of the classics like Super Mario 64 and Donkey Kong 64. Again, it's probably nostalgia, but I still find them very playable today. I hope my experiences with NiGHTS is the same when I get it, otherwise another childhood memory will be torn asunder.

The Wii version is a completely original game, No port since there wasn't a Nights game on the Dreamcast. And everything about that game sucks except for the music.
