Is the full version of Christmas Nights included?
On the store page it says playable content from it, makes it sound like its not the full thing?

Yeah. But just the Christmas Nights Spring Valley levels is playable, but only after the game has been cleared.
Happy Holidays

The christmas spring valley levels are playable, however the extra unlockable things in the original Christmas NiGHTS, such as the link and time challenges, and the sonic level are not included.

its been a decade or 2 since i last played it, does it still have the thing with the gifts or boxes or something...that you can open and unlocks stuff?

Sadly not.
It does have the gallery and sound test though, although they arent exactly the same.

I'd really love to see a "definitive" version of NiGHTS someday. I'm a big fan of the HD remaster, but at the same time, I do miss the little tweaks of Christmas NiGHTS (opening the presents, the time attack and link modes, and the playable Sonic and Reala). Is it really that hard to port them over, I wonder?

Reala is playable on this one, that's part of the base 'NiGHTS' experance. Though it's for April 1st, and yes NiGHT's replaces Reala as a boss for that day as well. It's kinda sad though that Christmas NiGHT's is for all accounts is pretty much stuck as a Saturn exclusive, and has little full hope of ever getting ported onto other formats. From the time attack, to playable Sonic ( that fully changes how the stage even plays out! ) there's just a lot that's never seen the light of day outside of that little fun sudo demo disk.

Maybe one day, but in eanrest if SEGA hasn't done it 'yet', I don't see them doing it 5 nor 10 years from now ether.

Sweet, that's awesome about Reala!

It would be nice if Sega might port it all over someday, or if some intreped modders could add them to this version. Christmas NiGHTS is wonderful here, but it's such a fuller experience on the Saturn. I've played full games with less content than that disc!

It's just such a treat, especially the first time, to be surprised by each present you open, and are suddenly greated with things like fully playable Sonic-based levels.

yeah thats's why i wanted this, christmas nights is the only game i can think of that put effort and thought into it, so it's a shame they don't have the present opening in this release.

In christmas nights the unlock progression make sense in the present opening aspect, where as most games now a days have it tacked on. Best christmas game ever.
