Make it easier to host a server please.
I don't want to go through downloading a file on the website and troubleshooting port forwarding and all the other hassles. It feels like an old Windows XP server setup when other games have moved on. Take a page from Terraria please and just add a host button and streamline the process. Thank you.

no need to download anything to host on windows and you have to forward your ports if you are behind a NAT in all games if you want to host a server
Bongwater Pizza 2013 年 11 月 13 日 上午 6:42
Yeah no. People NEED to learn how to do this. I'm sick of people asking if I want to play a game with them, and they go to host and they insist on using some stupid program like hamatchi. People need to learn how to forward their ports, it's a very simple process, and the only reason I could see it being a problem is if you're a kid and your parents don't want you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the settings, or if you're stealing someones wifi.

edit: You used to have to forward ports to host on terraria too. I honestly don't know if they've changed that, but you seem to think they have.

Agreed.

Also, home hosted servers with connections that can't really handle the traffic are the main cause lags atm.

It's not the end of the world, but I would like at least a simple LAN hosting system. If people want to to use hamatchi or anything else you don't agree with for online that is their issue, but for us who want a quick way of shooting up a lan game this would be very nice.

Want a quick game? *Loads up KAG* ... *Click* ... PLAY.
Maz 2013 年 11 月 13 日 上午 10:42
Just run dedicatedserver.bat in your KAG folder (without portforwarding) and then both Direct Connect (in Multiplayer tab) to 127.0.0.1:50301 if you're on the same internet/ip address.

Ah nice one thanks
But a click of a button would have been more, dare I say; user friendly

Don't you have to portforward if you want to use Hamachi as well? Would be weird if Hamachi somehow got past that.

that is what hamachi is for, it creates a virtual private network

Oh, I thought Hamachi used ports itself to connect each other in the network... How does it connect people if it doesn't use any ports?

we are going way off topic. hamachi creates a virtual network adapter, with its own ip and creates a tunnel between computers using some black magic. you need to use that hamachi ip when you connect then

It's basically a crutch for people who haven't learned how to port forward. The amount of time it takes to set up hamatchi, is the same as if you were to forward the ports. The only difference is one isn't half assed.

Wow, great job community. Real productive.

Honestly, this isn't the kind of game where simpler hosting yields good or meaningful results, it would just clog the browser with laggy servers.

If you want to play with friends, either use the "join game" steam feature, get them to send you the kag:// link, or type their username into the search bar. You don't have to host a game to play with friends, and you'll get a better online experience with a dedicated server anyway.

Simpler/Easier LAN hosting is a possibility for those that want to set up the game and not have outside interference, but "click of a button" internet hosting is not something we ever plan on supporting, there are enough servers hosted off johny98's netbook over a DSL connection from cuba as it is.

I haven't had the game long, but this has never worked for me. I have to find my friends game in the server list, clicking join them just says it can't connect.
