Single player?

Is there any option for single player (against bots maybe) so I can take my time learning the mechanics? Or is this only online against other experienced players?

There are various singleplayer options, a tutorial, sandbox, save the princess mode and challenges.

you may mod the game pretty easily to start a CTF or Take the Hall game in single player, and figure out how workshops work. i can tell you how it anyone is interested

Is there a mod to put bots in the game?

It would be nice to play the online modes offline if that's possible.

its possible even without mods (press [H] in sandbox mode) but this way you can only spawn neutral bots, that wont attack you. if you know how modding works, its pretty easy to spawn hostile mobs and play online modes offline. unfortunately bots are pretty dumb, and will only come after you once they spot you, and making them smarter would take a lot of modding

It's not possible to play the online modes offline due to the bots not being programmed how to play each mode. This is something we'd like to address in the future, but AI is always very time consuming to write.

Would be cool to have some bots. I think the community is slowly dying. So I need something else I can throw some boulders on.

There are some servers specifically for new players that pop up every now and then, but they usually don't last long because pros come on to farm the newbs ;-;

You can. Change mods.cfg to add the mods you want (once you have them installed), and change your sv_gamemode in gamemode.cfg if required. Then simply launch runlocalhost.bat, or dedicatedserver.bat and choose manual connect ingame -> localhost:50301 as IP and connect.
