Is it possible to play this?

I recently received a copy of the game. On SteamHunters I was told that the game is completely unplayable without registering an account before a certain date. Is this true?

It should still be fine, but if it isn't you can get an archive copy from sites like old games or go searching for a pirate copy on one of the popular pirate sites (I'm less familiar with the names for those but a think a certain fitgirl would have some files you would be interested in.)

When you have games like this there won't be any official support for you so if your legal copy doesn't work you'll be forced to go with an archive or something else.

That's the thing, I want to play it on Steam, because achievements in it are important to me.

That's the thing, I want to play it on Steam, because achievements in it are important to me.

Yeah you should be able to still get it and play on steam as long as the key works, I don't think anything has changed that would block achievements from being unlocked though you will have a hard time doing the challenges without other players to play with you as some of them are tied to the multiplayer.

The game is more abandonware than old, it came out over a decade ago though so not like it's a new game either. Ubisoft doesn't want it because they don't want to get back into the RTS market and Eugen doesn't want to do anything with it or the "franchise" that can technically be built off it because they are more focused on SIM RTS games which they have been struggling and fighting tooth and nail to make ever since to rather pitiful results considering the decade long effort.

Also how did you get it in 2018? I tried to buy it back then and it was removed from steam. I think it got delisted from all stores in 2015 or 2016 with only the item keys still available.

If I'm not mistaken, an agreement was finalized between Eugen Systems and Ubisoft, which is why the game was removed from game stores.

I also just bought the game again a few months ago. Yes, you can no longer register the usual way via Ubisoft, but there are videos on YouTube that show how you can bypass the login window and play the game normally via Steam. Even with friends.
