As for your question, without any spoilers, "Eternal" is a dark fantasy with the highlights being its length, which follows your character from youth to death and their legacy. It's a journey of a lifetime on an epic quest, and the many paths that lead to different endings. It's great, but also a dark fantasy theme, and the player can die early or during the story, thus ending the game early, so it's good when you want a more intense experience.
As for books similar to "Love Verse", I prefer the 'Wayhaven Chronicles' series, but that might not be your thing XD. The book has the same central plot, but different scenes for the ROs and the usual choice of player personality, reaction, and stats.
'The Fernweh Saga' series also has a similar story structure (one main central plot) and romance style to 'Wayheaven', but is more of a horror genre. I enjoyed it very much, but only book one is out, so I'm stuck waiting :(.
Choice of Games also has a section called "Heart's Choice" with books focusing on romance. One thing to note is that many titles are gender locked, sometimes for both the player and the ROs. I personally find the writing decent and I like reading the more erotica ones, but it's not a must-read or anything :P.
For the "Keeper of the Sun and Moon" series, the second book has some angst, but nothing that heavy, so you should be fine. This series has a lot of characters and ROs, so you might lose track of them if you read it in small chunks. Also, some good outcomes relies on stat checks, so be a bit careful with spreading your skill stats too much. Here is a guide, although it's not needed: https://pdfhost.io/v/.8rbIKFru_Keeper_of_the_Sun_and_Moon_Guide
Another indie book I found pretty good is this one "The Operative: Fires of Revolution". It's a cool sci-fi book where you play as a super soldier. Demo link at the botom.

I think I may have been unclear before, I dont really mind supernatural, or any kind of setting, even horror to be honest as long as its not over the top gross out kind of writing with terrible endings. I dont mind dark storytelling or agnst or anything like that either in moderation and as long as there is an actually good outcome you can achieve im fine with it, if anything it makes it more satisfying when you get it.
I just dont like stories that are intentionally trying to make me sad, I know some people see the appeal but I do prefer an overall lighter tone with of course dramatic moments here and there to give it stakes and some tension. And there are specific things I absolutely want to avoid, like threats of r*pe or gross out stuff.
Still almost everything is negotiable depending on how severe it is and how good the story/characters are beside, I just dont enjoy that kind of thing but depending on the story just about everything can have its place, tho those would be stories id most likely avoid.
Im not really sure what to jump into next, I still kinda lean towards the Bureau game as the idea seems really interesting to me and at 500+ it seems really long, tho the fact its not yet finished will drive me nuts.
Since quite a while ago I tried avoiding unifnished media, whether it be manga, books, anime, tv series, it just drives me mad not knowing what happens later and having to wait years on end, more often than not, eventually kills my investment in the series so its just better to not begin it at all than struggle :D
Anyway, you said that you have low standarts, which is kinda surprising seeing as you are so well read, at least in the IF genre, but regardless your recommendations have been very good far :)
I will try out Eternal at some point, seeing as it is by quite the distance, the best on that website, but it does feel like quite the undertaking so I will probably leave it for later. It has me intrigued tho, have to say.
One of the reviews I read actually made me reconsider and get into Wayhaven instead, it mentioned how with several of the characters there is barely any time for you to get to know them and like you said, that its hard to keep everyone straight as there is so many characters. In your experience, how bad is it? If its something mainly superificial I probably wont really get into it.
'The Bureau' is great, but you might want to wait for more content as the single playthrough is a bit short due to unique scenes for each RO, which is great :D. I'm the same as you in that I prefer to read a book or series that are completed or at least have more than the first book out.
Another series that I like as much as Wayhaven is 'The Fernweh Saga' but as mentioned that only the first book is finished and I'm left wanting more :P.
For other recommendations:
'Fallen Hero' series from Hosted Games is very good, and a popular one, so it's not just me who finds it great. The tone is a bit heavy but there are paths to better outcomes :D.
This series is also a bit unusual in that the player character already has some background story for the reader to discover more about their past instead of a more blank slate player character.
The story is intense in a good way with a rewarding experience and there are a lot of interesting small details, so I'd suggest reading it when you can be more focused instead of a casual read.
The only warning is that you can also go down a very dark path if you choose to, so you might want to pick choices that are more positive. It's very well written in any path, so it's worth a read.
The first 2 books out of 4? are done, so there is a lot of content already. Guides can be found on the CoG forums if you need it.
As for 'the Keeper of the Sun and Moon' series, I find it okay or decent but not great. It's still somewhat enjoyable for a single playthrough, but I wouldn't replay it for other ROs/routes since there aren't that many unique scenes. I'd suggest you read something else first and maybe read this series when you run out of things to read.
Another series I love is the already mentioned 'Werewolves: Haven Rising' series. I love the actions in this one. Not sure if this would be your thing though.
I also love the 'Vampire: The Masquerade — Parliament of Knives', but I'm also a fan of Vampire: The Masquerade IP, so you might not find it as enjoyable.
For a more casual read 'A Crown of Sorcery and Steel' is quite fun, not a masterpiece or anything but enjoyable enough fantasy adventure.
Also, over on itch.io, the 'The Night Market' series just released the completed first book yesterday https://the-night-market.itch.io/the-night-market
My "low standard" is more of me not being good at technically reviewing the books, e.g. analyzing how well structured or developed the story or characters are, or spotting plot holes and inconsistencies.
Lastly, do you want to go ask around on other forums too? I'm happy to talk to you, just that you might want other people''s opinions too.
Have fun reading :D.
I recently tried Werewolf: Haven Rising and Stars Arisen, the first one was very confusing and kinda convoluted, I cant very well recommend it unless you really like Werewolfs. But the second one is a pretty good read, its also 1mil words long and has a really good replay value, story is interesting and the world is pretty cool. That being said many of the characters are rather on the bland side and especially the romances are very much secondary, so it was dissapointing in that regard (as was the werewolf game to be honest).
Also been browsing Itch.io more and at the very least Tale of Crowns is very cool, tho unfinished, the writing is very strong aside for the "they" character shenanigans which just make it difficult and annoying to read sometimes (ease of read-wise), but many stories do this lately so I guess it cant be avoided. However the romances are very good and integral to the story, unlike with the recent CoG games I tried, where it genuinely feels like they are there just because its somewhat mandatory.
i didnt know that there will be a sequel that is good news looking forward to it
For free stuff on itch.io, most are work-in-progress with very gradual updates, so I'd suggest reading the ones that have more content first.
For example these titles have at least hours of reading for each playthrough (at least for me).
- A Tale of Crowns. Total word count 466k / 11 chapters, average per playthrough: 230k.
https://qeresi.itch.io/a-tale-of-crowns
- Crown of Exile. Approximately 585K word count
https://mona-mae.itch.io/crown-of-exile
- Superstition. Is quite lengthy if you play through all the available seasons.
https://13leagues.itch.io/
- The Operative: Fires of Revolution. Don't have a word count, but I remember spending at least a few hours reading.
https://theoperativeif.tumblr.com/
For finished projects, which are usually paid, do you have any preference so I can help narrow down the recommendation?
For example:
- In terms of platform and cost, do you prefer something outside of CoG and Hosted games? Or want to read the free ones instead of the paid ones? etc.
- In terms of genre, do you prefer a more romance-focused story or something else?
- For romance-focused ones, (which I believe are the most common), any preference for the PC and ROs gender and sexuality? Some stories have fixed ones, so that might help narrow the list.
I'm personally more interested in more romance-heavy titles and erotica, so I'm more forgiving of less-good writing or story if the romance is good.
I'll try digging through the authors I follow too to see if I can offer more recommendations for WIPs and free titles.
I dont know if I mentioned it before but I would also recommend anyone to check Night Market, its now paid on steam but there is also still a free version on Itch.Io unless I am mistaken, its the same game just with a bit less content and some stuff missing, it can be a bit needlessly wordy and buggy in certain routes (repeating dialogue, cant continue) but its overall a really good read.
some CoG/HG/HC titles I like ,and have not recommend to you are:
- "Their Majesties' Pleasure", A more light-hearted romance erotica fantasy. A bit short for my taste but the romance and erotica are fun.
-"Blood Moon", a werewolf game, a bit similar to the World of Darkness universe vibe, so a bit more dark and explicit.
-"Thicker Than" A WIP to "Blood Moon" mentioned above, but you play as a vampire this time. The WIP is quite substantial, with 9 chapters, about 340K words total.

*CoG forum needs an account and follow the "Adult Readers" group to make Adult content appears you can do so here https://forum.choiceofgames.com/t/adult-works-in-progress-update-thread/48389
Then go to the WIP thread here

"Defiled Hearts: The Barbarian" This one is also an interesting historical fantasy WIP. Play as a 'barbarian' spy in a roman legion. The free demo is 240K words, but might be worth following, and the Patreon demon is in alpha phase.

Another WIP I l like on itch is: Project Hadea, a mix of sci-fi cyberpunk, with nice action, suspense, and romance. It has 5 chapters for now, which takes me a few hours to read.
https://nyehilism.itch.io/project-hadea
Other titles I like and follow are more early in WIP, so I'd probably wait before suggesting them.
In general, everything PDRRook (author) writes is amazing; her writing is really good :) It's available on itch.io.
I’ve played some that are still in progress (but I can recommend trying them as samples and waiting for the full release): Wayfarer, Crown of Ashes and Flames, and Misplaced.
Crown of Ashes and Flames has a similar vibe to Arcadie: Second Born, in my opinion. It's a bit darker due to the MC’s past that we get to experience, but at the same time, it really helps immerse you in the story.
