This is one of the few FPS games that I really haven't felt that I needed a keyboard/mouse combo to play it right. Other than with the archer class, there is really not a whole lot of need for precision like with most shooters.
I'm going to connect my Xbox controller and turn up the sensitivity to see how well this works and feels, but my gut tells me that I'll be disappointed at the fact that it's melee won't be as deep as Dead Island's w/ the analog controls enabled.

As for this game, I think it would make a great port to console. It's already using the Unreal engine which works well on the Xbox platform and the game already has most of the control mapping done for the controller. There is almost no reason for the devs not to port it over after they have the kinks worked out for the PC.
I don't see why anyone would want to use third person view in combat, other than maybe with archers and javelins. It must be almost impossible to block attacks not being able to follow the tip of the weapons as they come down.
I just tried out the Xbox controller and it, however, does make it easier to switch between the three different attacks which is a godsend in the way the devs have them mapped to different binds instead of trying to using one attack bind and trying to derive the attack type from the player's movement (which would be more immersive).
I would recommend people give it a try if they mainly stick with melee units. With the right sensitivity, it offers more agility in creating your mix of attack combos.
I use to believe that, then the level of improvements and innovation from one product cycle to the next kept getting less and less impressive and equally so in demand. Take this game for example, you don't need the latest and greatest system equiped with a $350 graphic card to play it properly. The $25 cards on the market will do most people fine as long as they have a multi-core machine, which also means that it'll work on a console just fine as well. The controls aren't overly complicated and do not require a key/mouse combo to get the most out of it (I've actually don't better in certain combat situations with a controller).
I think the quality and integrity of games have dropped due to the quantity of cookie cutter titles that have been pouring into the market, where the only way to differentiate is to spend millions of dollars and focus on the "pretty" and polished look of the game or to become slave to the development of an indie title with almost no budget and focusing on mashing up retro titles or occasionally coming out with something innovative.
You should at least expand on your reasoning og how you feel the quality of the game would drop if adapted for console gamers and this is coming from a old skewl pc gamer raised on playing games using a keyboard... and a mouse after Quake 2's release. The only reason I own an Xbox is so I can tell Kinect what Netflix movie I want to watch.
