Have REALLY low FPS? Here's the fix!
When I first got Chivalry, I was surprised at how slow everything ran. Even on low settings I was averaging around 5 fps. I know my computer's spec are terrible, and that I'm limited by the graphics card, but this was way too slow and I knew it.

So I looked at another game that was running with Unreal, Blacklight Retribution, and my high fps config in that game. From there, I only had to change settings and bam! I'm averaging 20 fps like it was nothing!

How to install the high fps config

First - You have to access the UDKSystemSettings, and DefaultSystemSettings files.
You can do this by following this directory:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\chivalrymedievalwarfare\UDKGame\Config

In that folder you'll see a ton of files, but only look for the files stated above.

Second - Start with DefaultSystemSettings. Open that with Notepad (If you don't know how: right click and choose open with, then choose a default program and choose Notepad)

In a new tab, open this link: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=c67S0FXj

Press Ctrl+A to select everything, then Ctrl+C to copy it. Then go back into Notepad and press Ctrl+A and then Ctrl+V to paste the new settings in.

When you're finished, remember to save and exit.

Third - Now you want to open up UDKSystemSettings, and now it should automatically open up with Notepad.

In a new tab, open this link: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=pTrzH9NP

Now you can follow the steps stated before, and remember to save and exit.

Lastly - Now that everything is saved, Steam might try to 'fix' the changes to the files next time you load Chivalry. To avoid this, simply go back 2 folders to chivalrymedievalwarfare and right click AND hold Launch and drag it to the desktop. When the options come up, choose: "Create shortcut here"

Voila! You now have a high fps config!

I'll be sure to update this thread with screenshots asap, but your graphics should now look a lot like a bad PS2 game.

I would like to post back and remind you all that this guide was created a long time ago. I encourage that after setting your .ini settings properly you set each file to read-only as the game will attempt to overwright them on launch with default saved settings that might be stored elsewhere.

I also encourage you to enable High Quality Materials as without it, friend and foe alike display as checkered blue and white characters. Enabling High Quality Materials is virtually neccesary, but you will conserve 5-10 FPS by disabling it alone. Anyhow, I would really also like to encourage everyone here to build yourself a new computer rather than buying an upgraded computer. By upgrading your current RAM, CPU, and GPU and possibly overclocking with a better CPU cooler you will see a drastic increase in performance as it is like building a new computer of the same specs entirely.

For the longest time I tinkered with the engine settings and the .ini files to some avail, but still suffered from huge FPS drops to the ring of an average of 20 in combat. Quite simply, your solution will be to do what I've done, build a new computer entirely or save money and time and just upgrade existing hardware after you put some research into it. I built my first computer as an AMD 6300 w/ AMD 7870 and 1x8GB of ram and it runs Chivalry amazingly smooth on most maps, 60 FPS flat.

I wish you all luck, and welcome to Chivalry: Medieval Warfare!

I can't, because I don't have any money and can't get any money for something like that, and yes I know that it's my problem.

rather than doing whatever that last step is, you can just right click each ini file, click properties, and check the read only box. you will have to undo this is you wish to make any changes to the files again.

Unfortunately, this does not work.
Whenever I boot up Chivalry, even through the desktop shortcut, it has everything set to max.
My fps only drops to 50-40 in open areas with a lot of ppl, I use a gtx 770 and an i5 cpu, so I don't really think it's the hardware that's holding me back.

Thanks! I'm now getting 50-60fps on my 2012 Windows 7 MacBook Intel 4000 potato!

It really looks like PANTS now, but it's playable.
