You must aim your shield towards the tip of the enemy's weapon in order to guarantee blocking it.
The larger shields as carried by the knight cover far more area.
The javelin weapons are good fun aren't they?
It's almost a different playstyle for the archer, one of close support and utility, but I have to say I am not particularly impressed with the unlocks; spending time learning the handling characteristics of your low-range javelin to be rewarded with one which gives you more range for less damage seems like a strange choice as javelin players have forsaken sheer range for utility in choosing javelin, if you wanted range then pick bow or crossbow. Just my opinion of course.
And javelin's must have more damage than arrows in my opinion. Just think, one big and sharp javelin inside your chest versus an arrow/bolt.
Arrows and Bolts could be more lethal at longe range, but javelins must need a "boost" at short ranges. Its an idea:
- Arrows/bolts: +x% dmg at y range (very far)
- Spears: +x% dmg at w range (close)
If spears receive this boost i agree with less ammo like 2~3 spears per stack.
Force = mass x acceleration.
For you to be right, a human arm would have to be capable of driving a significantly greater mass than a crossbow bolt with significantly greater force than a crossbow could produce.
A bolt fired by a windlass crossbow could impart the force of a .357 magnum round to its target at several hundred yards. Could a human arm manage this with a crossbow bolt, never mind a much heavier javelin?
No.
Anyway, javelins DO have more damage than arrows, by quite a margin:

Even short spears do the same damage as a bodkin arrow from the warbow.
They even penetrate full plate better than a crossbow. Yay, realism.
And you want to give them more damage at their optimal range.
Anyway im doing well with Short Spear.
More speed, and decent damage.
I dont like that percentual damage at weapon stats, its confunsing to me.
Thats nice because u need the same to kill with bows and crossbows, that are very very much harder to hit.
as little as i play archer, charging headlong into a melee with a knight is soooo much fun. You can smell their confusion. ^^
