A strange CPU problem...
Hi All!

I've been loving this game but have been having some issue with my CPU and the amount of usage this game takes. While playing, I had noticed that the game will very rarely drop from a stedy 40-60 fps to a very low amount around 10-15. While trying to find the issue I noticed that my maxium CPU temps were dangerously high and realized that it was an issue of the CPU overheating and slowing down to save itself.

Now my problem is the reason for the heat. At random points in the game and when I ALT-TAB to check the temps, the CPU usage jumps from around 15-25% to 80-90% and then returns to normal. I beleive this is what's causing the high temperature spikes. The reason I noticed it was I would hear my fans spin up for a few seconds and then slow down as the spike ended.

I thought maybe that it is the amount it uses constantly but while running windowed and watching the temps at the same time, the temps only jump when the CPU usage spikes at random.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? And if so are there any fixes to it?
Also, what are the settings that I should turn down to decrease CPU usage?

Any info would be appreciated!
Thanks,
-Robin

I'm having this too. Hoping piping up will fix the issue for both of us if you haven't already.
Yeah the game puts insane draw on my cpu, I'm noticing that indy games made using real game engines tend to have poor optimization techniques. This may be to blame here. I am about to pick up a new processor because of the current indy market. Even though I can handle all AAA games thrown at me with no issues, it is the indy games like this and natural selection 2 that are eating my PC up.

Thanks for the Replies guys! I found two things that solved the problem:

-One thing I did find that helped alot was just a simple repaste of the cpu. Lowered my temps to where they rarely pass 80C now!
-Another thing you guys could try is to download the program HWInfo64 if you have not. It lets you control the fans on your PC. I was able to make a more aggressive fan speed profile that really helped lower te temps on my PC.

P.S: Still never figured out what the Massive CPU spike is :'/

Hope this helps you guys!

It's very weird because sometimes it's fine, for hours, no problems. Other times it stays around 15fps
my turbo booster engine (on my gaming laptop) doesn't run if i launch deadliest warrior, could you explain me how i should resolve this problem ?

I don't have fps drops, but as soon as I start the game, my cpu fan is speeding up significantly. The only game that managed to do this before was Witcher 2.
I didn't notice the thread was dead, sorry, but thank you for your help, SirRobin000.

Woah bringing back a dead thread haha.

I'll try to help both of you but I can't promise anything!

Legend: What do you mean by turbo booster? Are you talking a CPU or GPU? The only idea i have to what you mean is do you mean your dedicated graphics card doesn't run the game? Elaborate on what that means and maybe someone could help out?

Ruston: I wouldn't worry about the fans speeding up. Each system has an automatic fan speed setting that changes the speed as the tempertaure rises Mine did they same thing for this game and a few others. One being World of Tanks if you have ever played it. From my time playing Chivarly, I've noticed that it seems to be much more CPU intensive than GPU. To make sure nothing is wrong, I would download a temperature monitoring program. I use CPUID and another one called HWiNFO64. Either one will give you a temperature readout for your GPU and CPU.

CPU TempsAgain I'm speaking from experience but I usually don't worry unless it gets to the 90 degrees C ranges. Sure even 85's are a little high for my taste but the CPU usually won't stay in that range for long unless I am really running some stuff.

GPU: Here is the problem area for me in the past. For my setup, which is using a GTX 580m, it throttles down if the temps get above I think 70C. I'm not sure about every other card but I try to keep this temp fairly low and now usually run it in the 50-65C range.

TLDR: Ruston, unless you start having crashes or frame rate drops I wouldn't worry about the fans speeding up.

Hope this helps guys! If you have any questions feel free to post here and hopefully me or someone else can help you out!
