so, are the masons REALLY evil?
correct me if i'm wrong, but i do belive that during the training it says that the masons are a conquered nation rebelling, or something along those lines. but then in every obj. with the masons they make them out to be the bad guys. i also noticed that the agatha symbols resemble crosses. this makes me think of the northern crusades when the catholic church sent out armies to take over the "satanic heathens" because they were pagans (in basicness: any religion that isn't christianity). if you are caucasian, they were your decendants, ESPECIALLY if you are decended from one of the germanic countries and/or ireland and/or scotland. this makes me feel like the agatha knights are the real bad guys. just my 2 cents. i don't want to get into some religion argument. all im telling is historical facts.

Okay, a lot of what you're basing this on is generalisations.

Not the mention the Masons were not a conquered nation rebelling. The tutorial mentioned something along those lines, but the Masons were just a part of a war team that eventually split up.

ok. i wasn't sure on the masons thing and i said i wanted someone to correct me if i'm wrong.
Even if the masons are evil they still have the coolest uniforms and best taunts "Squire I need help adjusting my codpiece!" . I love how the mason knight sounds like arnie from conan the barbarian when you use the "Follow Me" voice button.

yeah. the masons have better voice actors. and the mason knight does sound alot better then the agatha knight. the agatha one sounds like he is half-choking.

They both suck.

The Agathians are a bunch of self-righteous, prigish, hypocritical aristocrats who say they want to protect the people but are often brutal and oppressive.
The Masons are a popular uprising, but led by a tyrannical military dictator and a small core of traitorous warriors, and they are incredibly cruel to almost everyone they come across, often for no real reason.

There are no real good guys, and I think that the developers did a good job charachterizing the factions.

There's also the fact that the Mason capital is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ MORDOR. Just throwing that out there :D .

And Malric used to eat a kitten every time someone said that they were going to release the SDK.

i dont think there is enough backstory, since its only in tutorial, to tell anything. mason just come out as evil because they are wearing red and randomly attack you.

Chivalry has canon lore.
I like to think that both sides are evil.

And they're also both western european. One of the analogies on tvtropes was also capitalism (agatha, blue) vs. communism (mason, red), but that has no merit except colours. If anything, the masons are more into capitalism, because they happen to be a guild (maybe not free market, since guilds tend to regulate prices), but its very stupid and has absolutely no bearing on modern politics, being set in the middle ages.

My opinion: The agathians are 'insert englishy kingdom here' and are fighting to keep their land and their wealth. They're the knightly order, because the knigths own the land, and all the men at arms and vangaurd (lesser knights), and archers are just servants in the employ of the knights. The king supports the agathians, because their power was established through the feudal system, which is how the king basically rules all his subjects in the first place.

The mason order on the other hand, are a guild. They're a bunch of wealthy merchants and everyone that fights for them are the developing middle class that doesn't want to be oppressed by knights that rule through birth right anymore. King Mulric is a self acclaimed king. Either he's some noble within the kingdom that chafed against the rule of the king, or he's a self acclaimed king that the guild 'elected' to become the new king. It's the middle ages, so monarchy is the only form of rule that is understood by anyone - in other words, Mulric wants to whipe out the king's lineage and institute a new lineage, which will probably take away all the knights lands, maybe establish another knightly order (land tenants; whoever is needed to defend the place from further rebellion/invasion) and give more power to the merchants in the process.

The mason capital is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mordor, because mordor looks awesome.

^ i like this.
Well, the game in team objective mode consists of doing rather questionable actions, so I´d for one would like to point out the irony in the name of the game contrasted to the actions done.
Pushing plague infested corpses into water reservoir and slaughtering peasants? Quite Chivalrous indeed.

mason knight has evil laughter. so they are.
Both sides aren't very "good" per say. The Mason Order is more evil than the Agatha Knights as far as morality goes as it appears they have no qualms about murder, slavery, and biological warfare in their effort to overthrow the current ruler. Agatha's current ruling family however sounds like they're pretty oppresive (they're Filthy Peasants no matter what side you fight for) and the knights don't seem too worried about getting their hands dirty.

Agatha is supposed to be painted as the good guys, but when you look into things, neither side is really right. Though considering Malric's army is quite brutal, the Masons would probably end up attracting the ire of Agatha's neighbors more so than the current family and cause another war in the near future should they seize the crown.

The good fight is lost no matter what side you pick, but Agatha's current ruling family would be much better in the long run than Malric and the Mason Order.
