FIX for UDK.exe not working error - crash on startup
For all of you that, like me, are experiencing a frustrating error where the UDK.exe crashes on startup, i found a simple fix that worked for me:

Go to your folder "X:\Steam\steamapps\common\chivalrymedievalwarfare\UDKGame" and DELETE the folder "Config". After that verify the integrity of game cache (on your Steam games list right click on Chivalry and go to Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity of Game Cache) and wait until it re-download the entire folder. Now the game should work. Looks like those files do not work properly at the installation, that´s why it keeps crashing even if you wipe the entire game and reinstall it (believe me, i tried).
I hope it works for you like worked for me.

Good luck,

Mac

I've experienced this problem when my game loads another map in a multiplayer game. Is it going to work for me aswell?

Honestly, i don´t know, because i just had the startup issue. But i believe you should try it at least, since it´s not going to take you more than 5 minutes.

Well, for me it was not necessary. I just re-downloaded the folder and started the game. So it seems that there is not just one kind of crash, then. Or maybe your error is due to some other reason. I suggest you to take a look at this discussion (http://steamcommunity.com/app/219640/discussions/0/846960628322713048/), where Arqulus presents a list with 14 more fixes, from disabling your anti virus to updating your DirectX. Maybe you can find one suitable for your specific problem.

Good luck and please tell us if you succeed.

Might it mess up after editing some .INI's? Even after deleting and reaquiring the files?
MacCelo Dec 23, 2013 @ 5:35pm
Hm... to delete and reacquire the files is just the procedure to fix the problems. I´m sure it won´t cause any others. Make sure you deleted the entire folder. This way you are going to get all the files again, even if you edited some of them before.

Hope that helps.

Try the other fixes by Arqulus. The link is on the previous comments.

OK guys, i just received a confirmation that this fix also works for the crash between maps, so if you are experiencing UDK.exe crash on map change, just redownload the files as said above and you should be good to go.

Good luck,

Mac

Welll... I've got the crashes between mapchanges and I deleted the "Config" - folder and I redownloaded the files, but my game is still crashing as before :/ I enjoy playing Chivalry but it is really annoying. (I've also tried to fix it with other suggestions from the steam-forums and from the :tornbanner:' forums as well -still crashing)
